Finally! The second Craig Finn album has been announced. There's a pre-order here, full of perks for people who donate a lot: www.pledgemusic.com/projects/craigfinnAlso, there's a new digital EP that will be out this Thursday if you pre-order the album. Personally, I love CHFE, so I'm beyond pumped for this one. I haven't had the chance to see a CF solo show. What are the new songs like? Still have that country-ish sound?

Like CHFE, these are decidedly not THS songs/anthems. They have the same chill vibe as the first solo record and I think it is better than CHFE.
The one thing that really stuck out to me was, the digital EP of songs is really good and a couple of the songs (I am not referring to the "single" which is on FITF) would be among the best on the actual new album. Apparently they just did not fit in the cohesive group of songs that is going to be "Faith in the Future".
The "single" is great and has a pretty remarkable and emotional story behind it.
If you are even halfway considering buying the album when it comes out, I highly recommend just doing it now and grabbing the extra songs.

I agree with Rich on this. As much as I loved CHFE, hearing some of the new stuff live*, it seems like a step up. A little hard to explain how, but I guess you could say more Some Guns than No Future. I guess.
I love the digital EP idea. Some of my favorite songs from the CHFE sessions were the ones that didn't make the record (Jeremiah's Blues, Some Guns, Sarah, Meserole).
*I was in Baltimore this past Sunday. What a set. Great pictures, btw, Rich. I was up on the balcony right on the corner of the stage. Saw a guy down front with a nice camera - was wondering if that was you, just knowing you work with THS.

$30 for the LP? That's a little steep.

They have the same chill vibe as the first solo record excited. I listen to CHFE often. Great tunes. I think it is better than CHFE. even more excited! The one thing that really stuck out to me was, the digital EP of songs is really good and a couple of the songs (I am not referring to the "single" which is on FITF) would be among the best on the actual new album. Apparently they just did not fit in the cohesive group of songs that is going to be "Faith in the Future". Should I go ahead and pull the trigger on this, or wait a little bit? I highly recommend just doing it now and grabbing the extra songs. Rich knows best. Take my money, Craig Finn. All I ask is that, when assembling what is probably another crackerjack band to play these songs (the CHFE show I saw was so good), please bring them to Charlottesville. Bummed that I waited too long to have CF make me a mix CD.

We've got a single:
Big fan. Dig the Jeff Tweedy-ish guitar playing and the "Tom" backing vocals in the second half.

I echo what Rich said on all of this. I did the album artwork and postcard set. These songs have really taken a hold on me over the last few months. I would highly recommend doing the pre-order if for no other reason than getting the EP tomorrow!

I did the album artwork and postcard set. The album artwork is perfect (and no, I did not take the photograph for the cover which I love).

$30 for the LP? That's a little steep. I believe that includes shipping.

even with shipping, it's pricey. i'll still probably do it and justify it to myself as a $20 LP, shipping, and $5-6 for the bonus tracks. stupid expensive vinyl.

Here's a shot I took of Craig on Newmyer's roof back in March when he was trying to figure out album art.

Shit, for those of you who've heard the record, is "Going to a Show" as good as I hope it is?
Edit: Oh yeah, he played that in LA in 2012 when I saw him! I wish my 47 year old mind was sharper.....
