now that it's officially the new year, i think i've decided on a proper top 10 for 2014:
The Lawrence Arms - Metropole Hard Girls - A Thousand Surfaces Total Control - Typical System Gold-Bears - Dalliance Dark Blue - Pure Reality EMA - The Future's Void The Copyrights - Report The Skull Defekts - Dances in Dreams of the Known Unknown Shellac - Dude Incredible Amanda X - Amnesia
2015 is already looking pretty promising, what with that Kanye/McCartney track that came out yesterday and the new Shinobu album out for free today. i'm hoping the new Modest Mouse is good, but who knows. wasn't so into the last one.

Good Cal Doc.
Mine looks something like
1> Foo Fighters - Sonic Highways 2> Jimi Goodwin - Odludek 3> Rival Sons - Great Western Valkyrie 4> The Hold Steady Teeth Dreams 5> Slash - World On Fire 6> Pixies - Indie Cindy 7> Temples - Sun Structures 8> Beck - Morning Phase 9> Twin Atlantic - The Great Divide 10> Augustines - Augustines
The Manic Street Preachers played a blinder too but I've only just got it so I can't give a rounded opinion of it yet. Both The War On Drugs and Blues Pills deserve a mention as I've played the arse out of both albums this year too. And Pulled Apart By Horses - Blood. That's a terrific album.
... *Edit* and Sleaford Mods. That's raw

I wanted to include the Pixies lp in my top 10 but it fell just short. Still really like it though. Honestly it was much better than I expected it to be

I didn't get the Morrissey album yet. I will but I just haven't got to it. I had no idea I'd missed an Eels record either.

The Run The Jewels album is amazing. Only just started getting into it though is why it didn't make my list. I expect Half Man Half Biscuit's Urge for Offal to do the same to my list when it arrives in the post next week! As for 2015... Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Father John Misty's new LP's are getting me excited as is the upcoming Moon Duo album.

"Lonesome Street" by blur bodes well for their first album in 12 years. The Father John Misty and Moon Duo LP's are also excellent. There are moments on the new Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds record that are great (You Know We Can't Go Back, Revolution Song). It's the new Sun Kil Moon album I'm looking forward to most though. "Ali-Spinks 2" is astounding.

I just read that Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit have a new album called Something More Than Free coming out in July. Seriously excited to hear that. Southeastern was my favourite album of 2013.

2015 is almost halfway over! what does everyone like a lot? my fav of the year is definitely the kendrick lamar record. favorite rock record is probably the shinobu album. if i did a top 10 now, it'd look like this:
kendrick lamar - to pimp a butterfly shinobu - 10 thermidor courtney barnett - sometimes i sit and think... tyler the creator - cherry bomb screaming females - rose mountain home street home - songs from the musical young guv - ripe 4 luv no joy - more faithful viet cong s/t nuclear santa claust - je ne sais claust

That Courtney Barnett record for sure, 100% - I'll have to take a look at what's come out.
With new Titus / Desaparecidos records around the corner its almost foolish to look now haha.

I love the fact that I haven't heard of 95% of the artists you guys talk about on here!
I really should check some of them out.
Or maybe I'll just buy the Dead's "new" Greatest Hits compilation......

I love the fact that I haven't heard of 95% of the artists you guys talk about on here! I really should check some of them out. Or maybe I'll just buy the Dead's "new" Greatest Hits compilation...... in case you're interested, here's a brief description of some of what i listed! kendrick lamar - to pimp a butterfly. incredibly dense, complex jazzy hip hop. lots of introspection and self questioning and contradictions. it all sounds, to me, like what being a confused human feels like. shinobu - 10 thermidor. indie rock with a distinctly punk rock energy. lots of wiry, kind of meandering instrumental parts and really dreamlike lyrics. one kind of clunker of a song but the rest is so good it doesn't even matter. courtney barnett - sometimes i sit and think.... really, really detail oriented singer/songwriter rock. she paints these perfect little pictures of people and settings. some of it's funny and some of it's heartbreaking. tyler the creator - cherry bomb. totally wild hip hop record. almost reminds me of the beach boys' smile in the scope of the sounds, it's like flipping through a radio station. veers from blown out noise and feedback to really smooth sounding summery songs. and kanye makes car noises. screaming females - rose mountain. heavy, riffy guitar rock that's also super hooky. this record has a few more mellow moments than their previous ones but the intensity still never lets up. home street home - songs from the musical. original songs from a musical that fat mike from NOFX wrote. way more moving than i expected it to be. it's about people that leave their families for various reasons and make a family for themselves on the street. it's triumphant and funny and so big hearted. young guv - ripe 4 luv. this is ben cook from fucked up's side project. super super poppy stuff, perfect for driving around with windows down. half of the record is more stripped down, drum loops and sparse riffs, and the other half is gigantic pop rock songs. instantly catchy. no joy - more faithful. layered shoegaze stuff that never loses itself completely in effects. lots of great melodies swirling around in the ether. viet cong s/t. dark post punk stuff along the lines of this heat. really cohesive and creates an almost oppressive mood, but in a cool way. also some really amazing riffs. nuclear santa claust - je ne sais claust. crazy fast, spastic punk that's almost hardcore but not quite. vocals are more ramones-ish than hardcore, and there's a great paranoid streak in the lyrics.
