Okay, so this is a kind of half-baked theory, but I've been doing homework and listening to Zen Arcade, and possibly spotting lyrical/thematic parallels in "Cutters." True, the main character in Zen Arcade is a boy, while it's a girl in "Cutters," but both run away from home, get caught up with a bad crowd, meet someone who gets in trouble (an OD on Zen Arcade, a murder in "Cutters," but still...), wind up returning home "distant and different."
Like I said, I haven't really given this as much thought as it deserves, and I know the connections are tenuous at best--I just thought it would be fun to bring up.

She doesn't run away from home. She goes off to college.

I think it's a pretty decent comparison, considering Constructive Summer was based off of Celebrated Summer. Craig is definitely influenced by Mould & Co.

I did notice a lot of Du feel in this latest record. I support your theory for no other reason than I like it.

She doesn't run away from home. She goes off to college. They both leave home, at any rate. Like I said--extremely half-baked theory. Also, ultimately it doesn't really matter, I just thought it'd be a fun discussion point. Glad people seem to like it!

Yeah, I guess I just meant that there's such a different vibe to running away as opposed to going toward something. But she ends up fucked up just the same.

I think it's a pretty decent comparison, considering Constructive Summer was based off of Celebrated Summer. But it wasn't. Just coincidence.

He's contradicting himself if he did say that in an interview, cos I've heard him say the direct opposite. The song's about Revolution Summer, the DC hardcore thing ...
