Anybody listen to City And Colour? A friend of mine who shares my William Elliot Whitmore fascination tipped me off to "Bring Me Your Love" awhile ago, and I'm kinda hooked...just some wonderfully boozy singer-songwriterisms--great melodies, great acoustic-based instrumentation, and one-liners like "Every man needs a muse/ Mine could be the bottle...My nerves will be the death of me." Am I late to a bandwagon with this album, or is it really relatively unknown?

you're kinda late but that's only because i have been into him for a while now (a few years). his debut album 'sometimes' is pretty much just dallas and a guitar and is heartbreakingly beautiful. 'bring me your love' fleshes out the sound a bit, is slightly happier (but not that much). he has a great voice, no, amazing voice and his writing is heart-on-sleeve kinda thing. this is great music for chilling out to. beautiful.
evan you seen/heard city and colour live? there is an album out there which you should definitely check out if you like the new stuff.

i'd say very late. Dallas Green is fantastic. The best thing is, this music appeared originally as he just had songs he needed to get out of him when Alexisonfire were taking breaks etc.
oh, and i hope to god you're both familiar with Alexisonfire and Helicon Blue, or i will be greatly irritated. I'm sick of kids who don't know the story and are all "ooohhhooo isn't he a pretty singer" when in truth, he's a hardcore dude with a soul.
Dallas can also be heard on Fucked Up's Black Albino Bones, The Dear and The Departed's To Cut A Long Story Short, Neverending White Lights's The Grace, and most importantly Every Time I Die's INRIhab, which is a fucking fantastic song.

OHHHHH that's why the voice sounded so familiar. Between Alexisonfire and that ETID track (both of which I love), I'm kind of embarrassed I didn't know before. I'll look for the live album and the first studio album, thanks for the tips!
And jerseymike--I saw Whitmore play solo at the House Cafe. No amp, no mic, just him and his guitar and banjo, singing and stomping for maybe a dozen people, and totally ripping the soul out of every single fucking person in the room. Unbelievable.

thank christ. Considering i consider Alexisonfire a better band than the band this board is centred around, i'd've been disappointed. What he symbolizes(sp?) to me is people like myself who see no musical boundaries and just love to play music. Real emotion you know?

I always thought Alexisonfire and Moneen were head-and-shoulders above the crappy emo/posthardcore shit going on for awhile. Just more musically refined and interesting, more substantial.
Also, picked up "Sometimes." Not nearly as smitten as I was with "Bring Me Your Love." That's a really soulful, rootsy, folky album; "Sometimes" is more what I would expect out of an acoustic album by the singer of Alexisonfire.

keep listening to "sometimes". that album is really beautiful in a stripped back, heart-on-sleeve way. he's not polishing anything, it's pure and simple. i think it's a really great album but it did take me a while to get it.
it's a really honest record!

i think he is a brilliant musician with a beautiful face. i'm not gonna lie and say i don't think he is pretty (because, well, LOOK AT HIM), but i like his music much more than i like him.

I went to high school with him..... Nice guy for sure.
I love his stage moniker City and Color. Gleaned from his real name, Dallas= City and Green= Color
