Every time I watch this I slide a little more towards genius. Definitely reminds me of Craig a bit.

doesn't have to be genius. ridiculous is good. into it is good. definitely not as charming as craig for me, but if i dug the music i think id be super drawn-in to what he's doing.
always weirded out by who gets these really sweet television spots. i mean, really, if just one of the art rap guys got one shit would pop off so fast.
but im not exactly an impartial observer.
I did find out about THS via their Colbert spot though...

I might not have watched this were it not for all the puzzled comments (on several boards I frequent). I think I like them. The lead singer has a voice that would be well-suited for a 1950s crooner, but no one is making music like that any more so he's figuring out other ways to use it. He is TOTALLY committed to that performance and that alone puts me on his side.

Pass. I hate keyboard based music. No guitars = not interested.

I see what you're saying friend but it just reminds me too much of the synthpop bands of the late seventies and eighties. I've always been a guitar based band type guy. It probably has something to do with my love for The Who, The Replacements and REM.

But bands like Kraftwerk and New Order and Suicide were breaking huge swaths of new ground in that time period with their synths. Sure, some of it sounds dated, but not much more than a lot of old guitar rock.

Love this new record.
Don't get completely shutting off a whole genre/type of music because it doesn't have guitars. That's bordering close on "I listen to everything by rap and country." But hey, to each his own, I get someone not liking this particular artist, that's cool.

With jtd7 in that I probably wouldn't have listened had I not seen the name around so much, but...
As a big 80s fan how could I not enjoy this? His performance was amazing, too - that voice had so many surprises up it's sleeve!

I really like the new album, I'm not sure what happened though, they were the first band in an Okkervil/Titus your a few years back and I thought they were shit. But time changes all I guess.

Saw them last night at the Great Escape and was pretty impressed. A bit of LCD Soundsystem about them. Incredibly intense performance. He reminds me a little of Cathal Coughlan of Microdisney, in both looks and intensity. A strange growl/howl of a voice that sometimes sounds like death metal and sometimes strangely like Billy Idol of all people! Worth checking out I'd say.
