i thought you'd like them! if you ever have a chance to see them live, you HAVE to. they don't seem to be playing much nowadays, though, what with warren ellis working with nick cave most of the time. Ordered 'Ocean Songs' tonight and I'm already driving myself crazy with anticipation. Been watching some live videos of them on YouTube and they look/sound incredible. It's strange for me to see a clean shaven Warren Ellis. Also, his playing looks all kinds of cathartic. Thanks for the advice folks!

How can there be this many posts and no mention of Tortoise?
Trans Am made some great records too.

I'd say 30-40% of my iTunes is instrumental. I run the gamut from Kraut (Can, Neu) to Doom/Drone Metal (Sunn, Boris, Sleep) with everything in between. Honorable mention to Bardo Pond, Don Caballero, Mogwai, and Godspeed you! Black Emporer. Is anyone into Grails? They're from Portland, OR. I saw them a few months back and they killed live. Check 'em out: www.myspace.com/grailsongs

fans of the likes of Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai etc should give Kontakte a listen - their debut album is superb and features remixes of their stuff by the likes of Six by Seven, Death in Vegas and Matt Bartram. Incredibly intense live too and well worth seeing www.myspace.com/kontakteuk

Oh, and let's not forget about Earth. Their last two or three albums have been stellar. "Hex", "Hibernaculum" and "The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull". I enjoy the earlier stuff as well.
