amtrak from new york will be your best friend here. i know many are planning to make that trip and i'm sure they would be happy to guide you.

I'm not going, but your best bet will likely be to take the PATH train ($1.75 each way) from any number of stops in Jersey City to New York's 33rd St Station ( 2 blocks from Penn Station), then hop on an Amtrak from Penn Station or a coach to Albany. Amtrak from NYP to ALB is $58 return; it's a 2.5-hour trip one way, but the Amtrak station in Albany is actually located across the river in Rensselaer, so you'd have to take a cab or a CDTA coach from there. GoToBus coach trips look to be around $50 return, with a 3.5-hour trip each way -- but their station is only about a mile from the venue. can anyone recommend what kind of times i should get the amtrack up from penn station? Im starting to think it may be a lot simpler to crash in albany and get a train back the next day
