Man, I'm SO ashamed. Where the FUCK have I BEEN ?!?!?!
SOFT ROCK and Fiestas + Fiascos ? Must owns. Simply terrific. Finn had It back then, man. "Perscription Sunglasses" ? A modern classic. Simply elegant and the lyrics are as touching as, say "Lord I'm Discouraged".
They were like a more, raw, foul-mouthed THS...and I like that. But Finn...wow, I feel he's a freekin' genius.
That is all.
Carry on. ;D

Just downloaded Fiesta's + Fiascos The opening song is great, I can't believe I didn't delve into them straight away. I guess I was scared that I may not like LP which could have left me not like THS as much as I do. I am glad that I was wrong.
Where can I get Soft Rock from. It's not on iTunes, and I don't fancy spending shitload of money on eBay

Thanks you guys.
Another one I really Like is "To Live and Die in LBI". "The crowd cheered when she threw up her beer"
I'm in heaven, man. It's like when I bought all THS cds at one times and gorged myself on A+ music-- now I get to do it all again !

Yeah I was late to this party too.
JUST got Fiestas and Fiascos and love it more than SS.

Seems more punkier with little production compared to BAGIA for example.
BTW, is the BAGIA producer same as the SP one. Because the sound on BAGIA is really good and clear, whilst SP can be quite murky at times.

I like fiestas + fiascos, but I'm having trouble getting into soft rock. don't know why. They're nowhere near THS in my opinion Soft Rock isn't a linear album the way Fiestas is- it's a sort of retrospective, with a number of singles/EP tracks in there. Most of the tracks feed into the main Lifter Puller saga- the Eyepatch Guy, Dwight, Jenny, Juanita, Katrina, and the Nice Nice- but come from different points in the band's existence. Some of the singles have a production standard that is equivalent to Fiestas or Almost Killed Me, while some are of a lower quality. All have a certain charm that reveals itself upon further investigation. Some of the songs took longer for me to warm up to them, but I'm glad I was patient and kept listening- Lifter Puller songs tend to be far funnier than Hold Steady songs. On the other hand, "The Pirate and the Penpal" includes some of the most devastating lines I've ever heard...

Whilst googling "fiestas + fiascos" I typed in Diestas, is that a good band name? or not not. most certainly not. fiestas and fiascos has a few totally great songs, but i feel like it kind of gets disjointed and trails off a little towards the end, so it's my least favourite of the lifter puller albums. does anyone know if the vinyl version is worth anything? my copy of soft rock was tragically destroyed but thankfully i still have my original copies of s/t and hd&d.

i lovelovelove lifter puller!! there is something much more sketchy and debauched about them, which is always nice. soft rock is awesome from start to finish! just give it time to sink in. i love everything they ever did. ever.
cannot wait for that anthology to hit. i only have downloaded copies because, well, real copies are kinda scarce and expensive here.
mike, you have the vinyl of fiestas and you want to get rid?! madness, i'd kill for it (or actually pay you money...)

mike, you have the vinyl of fiestas and you want to get rid?! madness, i'd kill for it (or actually pay you money...) i never said i want to get rid of it, but i do have that album on cd as well so if it's worth significant cash then it's definitely something worth considering for me at the present time. for the record, yes, i most likely would trade it for a vinyl copy of "empty bottles broken hearts" by the murder city devils if the situation arose.
