the stranger article is pretty amusing one man's repetitive is another's self-referential and consistent

the site's gone pretty downhill but i like the RPG articles and one of the guys writes some really scary microfiction.... forget the name and yeah they've got some halfway decent writers but i dunno... i prefer Cracked
Craig does tend to repeat himself and his themes. i like it, but you can't deny it i wish the article had mocked the mythology more then the Springsteen stuff. 'cause i love THS but the detailed plot stuff could do with a little joshing
but i think the guys who write these are metalheads... 2nd page after dissing Craig praises Dio's skills (no offense to Dio, and i know they were written by two different people)

I'm pretty sure Garbage Day has wriiten pro-metal stuff in other articles too, yeah. I saw this a couple days ago and it just felt kind of lazy to me. I usually like reading takedowns of media I enjoy but Heaven is Whenever, while good, does feel like a transitional album to me. I'd rather read a negative review of Separation Sunday or something. The old music review did one for Coheed and Cambria's fourth (I'm not a fan, but I have a friend who loved them at the time) and they mostly talked about the really stupid stuff with the bike, when criticism of their earlier, stronger work would've made a better read. I read LF sometimes, the joke political forum on SA, but the front page is mostly just good for Lots of Dogs updates www.somethingawful.com/d/news/dog-classifieds8.php

I rarely post but I do have an account, so I don't get locked out anymore. LF's been pretty weak the last few months but the election-season high lasted over a year before it petered out. I know a shit-ton about the healthcare reform debates and ultimate bill thanks to a couple posters there. I haven't gotten into Let's Plays because I feel about videogames the way I do about tv/movies - There are some specific examples I really enjoy, but I can't say I'm a fan of the medium itself. Music and politics is pretty much all I care about

My friends tried to get me into the forums on Something Awful. Reading those is like reading a transcript of a group of 15 year olds shit talking while playing Halo on xbox live.

General Bullshit is... bullshit but Laisezz Faire and Let's Play are decent reading Helldump mocking other users horribly nerdy habits kinda helped cure me of some of the worst of my social creepiness. or at least i hope it did the front page has gone downhill... Garbage Day is a perfect example. is it flamebait? mocking crappy music? a real review site? the first page on this week's is meant to piss us off.... the second is a touching tribute to Dio. weird

Like I've said before, one of my favourite things about them is how often they reference their own lyrics. The SA article looks like it's been written by one of my close-minded school friends who won't listen to anything unless they've heard it on Radio 1 or covered on Glee.

I was just thinking to myself how much I hate The Stranger this morning. It is definitely in my top 3 things that I dislike most about Seattle.

I'm a SA goon. I love the site, love the forums, etc. I even found myself chuckling at the Hold Steady article, particularly saying that Craig "must be dealing with some Rain Man kinda shit".
So anyway, yeah, they criticized the band we really like. So what? Don't take yourselves so seriously. It was a funny article, dudes, which is exactly what SA is supposed to be about.

"One really can't push too much of the blame on Craig Finn... He's clearly a fucking idiot. And, perhaps, borderline retarded."
I particularly lol'd at that bit.

Yeah, the only thing SA is good for to me is just sheer amount of information available. For that it's pretty great. But these opinion articles, bashing literally anything that might get a rise out of a group of people... if they were amusing to me I'd feel different I'm sure, but they aren't, so they just seem childish and sophomoric.
I COULD let this get me upset, but it wouldn't get me anywhere.

Honestly, no one really reads the front page on SA. Most of us are on the forums, which have their own sort of small separate ecosystems. I post on or read the boards every day, but didn't know about this article until today. Needless to say, I'm pretty meh about the whole ordeal.

I COULD let this get me upset, but it wouldn't get me anywhere. the problem is that there's no way to tell if they're being serious and i don't mean that in a clever, Onion style way. i mean the movie reviews (except Truth Media) are mostly serious, the music articles are half slagging off and half real stuff (like the interview with the guy from Strapping Young Lad) they've still got some talented writers. the Fashion Swat/RPG stuff is great, the weird horror microfiction is great.... but mostly all the good Internet comedy writers are at Cracked i care/know way too much about this website i wonder how Newgrounds is doing?

SA is buddyhead's misbehaving, attention-starved little cousin

nah it's getting old... it's ancient in Internet years and trying to figure out if it's about the community or the funny. 4chan's surpassed it in meme generation, Cracked in humor....

yea, buddyhead was all about music. but it had that super snarky sense of humor thing. mainly people just read it to see who they were making fun of
