Stay Positive #36 on Rolling Stone's top 50 albums.
TVOTR was #1. Huh? Either way, nice showing!

Because I'm in a cranky mood, I'm going to share my belief that Dear Science is not the best album of the year nor is it the best TVOTR album.
I have either lost total contact with the zeitgeist or other people are delusional.

I have either lost total contact with the zeitgeist or other people are delusional. These are both true. Cookie mountain was better. Dear Science is a great album though so I'm cool with it toping the list; it is rolling stone after all.

I love both albums, but i do think that Dear Science is better. It is much more accessible without being overtly poppy and i think the lyrics are much stronger. It is definitely my favorite album this year.

Evil Urges was number 1??? There are some gems on that album (Evil Urges, Thank You Too, Aluminum Park, Touch Me or I Will Scream Pt.2), but the middle is pretty weak in my opinion. Attack & Release and Stay Positive are both better.

That TVOTR disc really opens up more with each listen. I was in the 'ehhh' category for a while, but wow, it's totally grabbed hold of me. It's really good stuff, and deserving of the accolades it's getting.
There, it had to be said.

i am still to this day a Rolling Stone subscriber and it is because of stupid lists like this that i can honestly say that i only retain my subscription for the political reportage, which remains top notch.
with the advent of so-called online mags like Pitchfork,PopMatters and the like that are on top of everything before it happens, the Stone really embarrasses themselves when it comes time for year-end stuff.they talk about bands like Vampire Weekend,Fleet Foxes, etc like they are these brand new things that they've discovered and are now condescending to inform us about.please...i saw both of those bands before Rolling stone ever mentioned either...and i live in a small town in the Midwest.AND i'm old and uncool!if i'm on it months faster than the Stone then clearly the shelf life of its cultural relevance is at an end.
and while i'm ranting, what up with the inclusion of the Jonas Brothers on said list?compared with other Kiddie pop tripe force fed the children of mainstream America in my lifetime i suppose it ain't bad(at least they write some of their own songs)but among the best albums of the year.no fucking way.
the Jonas Brothers are agents of fascism.note that i said they are AGENTS,not fascists themselves.they are nothing more or less than the latest attempt by the powers that be to separate Sex from Rock-n-Roll,an exercise that has been going on since the days of Pat Boone,Bobby Rydell,et al:look kids!here's some cute boys who rock!and don't believe in fucking someone you aren't married to!
trying to separate teenage lust from rock-n-roll is like trying to produce bourbon that doesn't get you drunk.it ain't gonna happen and why would you want to even if you could?
death to the fascisti swine!

Whenever I read one of these lists and I see something I like on it I say to myself "See, self, you are pretty damn smart." When I dont see nay bands I know but I see The Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus or Madonna I say to myself "See, self, dont pay attention to lists. Lists are crap" Lists are just to pass time when you could be doing something else.

as a huge TVOTR fan, and contrary to what i have read in this thread......i think this album is their best yet. i do think it is the best album of the year. it gets better and better with every listen. family tree is my favorite song in quite a while. it will most definitely be played at my wedding next year.
