What is gonna happen now that the economy is in the crapper? Do you think the country is still gonna go green? Me thinks that the idea of LEED certified buildings is on the way out along with things like recycling. That shit costs money to do, and people arent gonna do it to feel good. And who is gonna want to pay more for a hybrid NOW. Damn, my SUV just started looking ok again. I think its gonna get weird. I think the worm is turning.

Actualy I work in an engineering firm that is drowing in nearly too many jobs because we are LEED engineers while other firms in the area are pretty stagnant. There are some fiscal upsides to building a LEED building in the long run: lower energy costs in the future which will go back up, goverment funding, looks great on a resume to taxpayers or investers (we do alot of schools) yattayattayatta. I think this latest energy scare is the kick in the pants that America needed to straighten up. (two cents)

Yes but I am pretty sure these are projects that were commissioned within the last year. Its going to beinteresting to see if people will now pay to put up building that are LEED certified that cost more to build. Sure we are told that in the long run they will 'save money' but none have been around long enough to prove that. I also think that these buildings are responsible for driving up the rents and OE in many major american markets.
I also rememeber a few years ago when NYC was slow, the first thing Bloomberg did was stop recycling. I bet we see that in a matter of months.
Not trying to start anything, but I know alot of people here are eco-minded and i just wonder how this seismic shift in the economic groundplate will affect the advances that were being made.
I mean can you really imagine paying MORE for a Hybrid vehicle today?

Funny, I just read an article today about the auto industry bail out. It said that we had already given them a billion dollars years ago, with them promising to put the money toward smaller, more fuel efficient and alternative energy vehicles. They got the funding the year GM got the rights to the Hummer.
When asked by congress if they'd be willing to lower thier salaries, Ford CEO said "I think I'm O.K. where I am." He's at $22 million/year.

@bible salesman I hope they continue to build LEED buildings, as it is in my best interest. But there will definitely be cut backs in how far their initial investment will be in the next couple years. Which will mean less LEED buildings but certainly not none. I think in the long run the turn will be towards these kinds of projects though.
