I went with keys. I play guitar (poorly) and I suppose I could probably still pull off a few songs on my old flute (poorly). Yeah, keys was the only reasonable option. Does Emily play the jazz flute?

I play guitar and I sing. Fun times. I also have a little thing a luthier friend of mine made called a bouguiman (boogeyman) that, in his words, is a mix between a bouzouki, a guitar, and a mandolin. I've been trying to work up The Swish on it, if I ever get it figured out I'll post a youtube of it.

I am disappointed in the lack of harmonica players.

I'm the drummer vote, but am thinking about also learning the Harmonica - new year's resolution? So do this again in a year and maybe I'll vote for that one

So do this again in a year and maybe I'll vote for that one *hi-fives caz for being a drummer I can't read music... but I've been playing drums since 1997. I'm nowhere near as good as I should be, I still have my first kit which has been everywhere with me. I don't practice because I have no room, my only practice is in front of crowds of people at shows! Second instrument is my voice. I can pick out harmonies and stuff which always seems to be useful. Third is keys, specifically organ really. I can't play the piano because my left hand doesn't want to do all the complicated things my brain wants it to. I'm most definitely not proficient. Fourth is guitar, which I play because it's easy to find space to practice it. I learned it from watching people play it from behind a drumkit for so many years. I'm most definitely not proficient. I can also make sounds out of harmonica and bass but I couldn't play them in a band.

Band practices and gigs are all the playing I get, it's sad but makes you appreciate what playing you do get all the more I guess...

Yep. Using the shit out of that. I recommend hanging around during the recording, because all of those keyboards are gonna be getting a work out, hahaha

we should all join together and make a hold steady tribute band. we wouldn't be as good as the real thing but we could certainly try.

I'm the drummer vote, but am thinking about also learning the Harmonica - new year's resolution? So do this again in a year and maybe I'll vote for that one I play guitar, bass and mandolin, but literally got bored after work one day and bought a few harmonicas in different keys and started playing along with blues records. It's extremely fun, you can find "how-to" guides online that show basic technique, and beyond that it's just practice, trial and error. Tons of fun, not too expensive. I threw in my vote for harmonica, because there weren't any and it looked lonely.

I've always been the singer. I can hold down rhythm guitar pretty good, and I've been working out chord theory and how to perform solos, but its slow progress. Its easier to just 'sing'... In case you're wondering, I sound kind of like a combination of Craig Finn and Tim Armstrong.

I own two guitars. I play just badly enough that people can sometimes figure out what 3 chord song I am torturing and beg me to stop so as not to ruin a favorite tune of theirs with the painful memory of my "rendition". If they ask really nicely, I don't sing.

I'm got lyricist down, though that half of myself likes to hide. I can also sing -alright- and I'm learning piano/keys. I can't read music, but I can BS my way through songs and write my own.

I'm worthless behnd a drumkit. A shortscale bass like a Fender Mustang is my next gear purchase because I can play it like a guitar. I sold my favorite guitar (a black reissue 62 Custom Telecaster) to buy a new furnace for my recording studio in Mpls. I still love my white Melody Maker there. Tomorrow I will shop for a baritone ukulele to keep in the UK. I love mine at home. The Bari uke and my Calvin Johnson/Johnny Cash voice is how I write songs. And I am 12-string solid body Rickenbacker shopping for a special lead singer and myself.

Meanwhile: if you're looking for a short-scale bass, I really dig the Vox Panther. A friend of mine has one and it's a blast. Great, punchy sound, too.

And then my eyes travelled up the neck. WOW. That is so fucking cool. Tele's have somthing about them. I think they are best looking model of guitar, followed by SG's, but the 2 SG's I played sounded really shit.

Er, how about those of us who want to learn how to play an instrument. Where is that thread? Learn guitar hero, it's kind of like a real guitar........NAWT Get a cheap ass acoustic guitar. Learn some chords, Oasis are a perfect example of a band who you should play when you start on guitar. Learn some power chords and Banging Camp. There you are a fully fledged guitar hero now. If you do start, don't give up when your fingers start hurting. It happens to us all, and it is the punishment we have to go through for playing such a kickass instrument.
