I enjoy listening to the bootlegs that are over at the Live Archive and the Compendium. I thought it would be cool to talk about some of my favorites.
I'm intending this as a series, based on the reaction to it. So, give it a read and let me know what you think! If it's good enough, I'll post a few more.
Live at Lollapalooza 2007 - August 4, 2007 - Grant Park, Chicago, Illinois
A near-perfect crystallization of Boys and Girls In America-era THS. Focused, ferocious, and in some way, fantastically ragged. The show opening "Stuck Between Stations" begins with Bobby's insistent bass pedal whomps and launches into a full-out guitar flood. As the riffs cascade into a heap of piano notes, Craig states: "We drink and we dry up and we crumble into dust," then asks the crowd "RIGHT?" as Tad slinks into an adlibbed solo between verses. I've never not shouted that back at Craig at a show since.
The band was creeping closer to touring on the album for almost a year at this point, and it shows. From the buzzsaw precision of "The Swish", the swift, quick-tempoed "Hot Soft Light" and the one-two punch finale of "How A Resurrection Really Feels" that effortlessly melted into "Killer Parties", the band was moving away from the boozy dirges and marathon sets that punctuated their early years. For better or worse, it's a band hitting it's stride.
"Last year we played here and I said this was the most fun I had before three o clock," Craig said before 'Chips Ahoy!', referring to the band's Lollapalooza 2006 set. "This is shaping up to be the most fun I've had, period."
By the sound of it, you'd have a hard time not believing him.

that ain't no bootleg!
that's against the rules! That's a professional soundboard copy and legally bought. No boots or legs.
All joking aside that's a great listen, I'll have to think about which one i think is the best.
Please post more!

In fact, it's one I got off the board here from a member I can't quite remember.

I've got to say, this is by far my favorite bootleg as well. The setlist is killer, the mix is clearer than usual, and the boys were just plain and simple in fine form that day. Great Hold Stakeout '07 was one of my fondest memories of that entire year. To this day, it's my favorite festival performance, by any band, ever.

But, I think the rule must be that the show is posted at the Live Archive before you write...cause I'm now dying to hear this show! Jack

Craig states: "We drink and we dry up and we crumble into rust," then asks the crowd "RIGHT?" as Tad slinks into an adlibbed solo between verses. I've never not shouted that back at Craig at a show since. crumble into dust, brendan, dust. i'm just jealous because i don't have a computer so i can only hear recordings that are available physically (or kind souls burn onto cd for me).

i have very little. like two shows on cdr, i think. i'll check which ones i have tonight (if i remember) and then you can burn me your favourite one i don't have or something? that'd be real awesome. i was also hoping you might squeeze in the two new exclusive JoFo songs that are only available online for two weeks and won't be on the next album (explanation and link in this thread: theholdsteady.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=music&action=display&thread=704). xo

Thanks for the mp3s Brendan/TheWho! I didn't know this show was recorded. It provided much entertainment on my long car ride this afternoon.
My favorite live bootleg is probably the Rams Head show. I may be biased because I was there, but the setlist was so fuckin good, and the quality is very decent. Plus, Hot Fries!!!

(no real sleep for two days, international flight, stressful last-minute ride planning, lots of sudafed)

For quality purposes Live @ The NON-COMMvention seems unparralelled and it's probably got the best of the new stuff live on it.

It was my first proper THS gig, not counting Bonnaroo, and I'm a naturally shy person, so I didn't go out of my way to introduce myself. Next time, for sure!

By the sound of it, you'd have a hard time not believing him. By the looks of him, you'd have no doubt. It was really amazing, the difference in crowd size between the two years. It showed how much word had spread about 06 and how much the band was catching on - I couldn't get closer then fifteen rows on the side, and every other band I saw that day I just slid to the front for.
