I guess it could be his concert closer :-) Ha, ha absolutely - I posted this on the "What are you listening to" thread New Frank Turner arrived today. The last song (Farewell to my City) has a bit of a Killer Parties vibe about it. Nice song about Scott Hutchison as well. Good interview in the Independent. THS mentioned in first paragraph! www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/frank-turner-interview-addiction-dad-b2004119.htmlHaving listened to it a few times I'll revise "a bit" to "a lot" It's his strongest album for years.

Oh, I've never followed that thread. I think the "Killer Parties" vibe and "a bit Killer Parties" was maybe you being polite..lol Yes I agree, his strongest for years. I think as time progresses, his folky punk, it becoming more Punky and THS. Thinking of going to see him in London the weekend after Weekenders, if I can keep myself busy for a week down there.

If you've not seen FT live I'd hugely recommend doing so as he's fabulous. His new album has got a THS vibe in a few songs IMHO, and is well worth a listen. UK No1 album tis week.

Yeah his new record is very very good isn’t it. Direct.
I like that he repeats “nearly killed me” a few times… I have to admit I was on the edge of my seat listening to that hoping one of them would be an “almost killed me” just to complete the bromance.

Yeah, I had exactly the same reaction to the ‘nearly killed me’ line. The Gathering and The Ressurectionists also sound a ton like THS. Frank joked about it on Twitter with Craig when the former song came out, and everyone seems cool with it, but they do sound really similar.
In ‘Haven’t Been Doing So Well’ he says he’s not Joe Strummer, then ‘not a teacher or a builder’…a Constructive Summer ref?
I think the best songs on the album are the most personal - ‘Miranda’ and ‘Wave Across the Bay’.

Yes, Wave across the Bay, close to home for me.. I live in the village under the bridge. It's a bit of a destination for troubled folk. What I find sad is he pre-empted it in his song.

I have very mixed feelings about this one. Initially, I didn't really like any of the singles. They all sounded a bit too... I don't know, cynic, deliberate, to me. Like all I could hear is what Frank Turner wanted to SOUND like, too much marketing and concern about how he would be percieved, and not enough of the real person behind it. But after spending some time with the album, I kinda like it more than I expected. I still think he lost something after Positive Songs For Negative People, and the impression I got from Be More Kind can't easily be erased. But even though this sounds like a very well planned reboot, I think the songs are good enough to hold the album up. So while I a year ago was ready to dismiss him as an artist alltogether, I know actually look forward to see him live again. Haha.
