I am sitting here in work with a long night ahead of me. For the most part I have been thinking of all the shit in front of me, and not whats already passed me by. I have on my Ipod and Resurrection comes on and all of a sudden I am outta there. Just for that few minutes I am able to escape. Singing in my head and just being someplace else She's been disappeared for years Today she finally came back Walk on by. And just like that its all ok.

It is hard to go into why I like The Hold Steady so much. First, their songs just seem to capture a lot for me. It's hard to explain. The other part is, I love having other people listen to them and go, wow. IDk... there are just not words.

The line about City Center in "Yr Little Hoodrat Friend" was what first convinced me of the greatness of THS. The first time I heard it, I was working in downtown Minneapolis and walking through City Center every day where there was only a Jamba Juice, a Sam Goody and a shoe shine. Hearing it was just reconfirming that someone else kind of got my life.

But that line..."there were just too many kids'...that speaks to something way deeper than locale. That speaks to unity. And i love when Craig walks to the edge of the stage and sings to us and not the mic. And Galen cracks me the fuck up. I could go on.

It would take too long to explain why I love the Hold Steady. So I'll suffice with saying that it brings me back to rock and reminds me what a unified scene really is.
Besides, seeing them live is greater than any words could ever express.

there are so many possibilities to the answer of this question for me. however, i'll have a go. i love the feeling you get at shows, the excitement of knowing that you won't see another show quite like it until you see them again. i love the pure joy that runs through my veins when i hear the opening chords to stuck between stations, i love the gosebumps when craig sings "holly was a hoodrat" on resurrection, i love the bouncing around and the air guitar and the scene.
i love the way this band make me feel more than anything else in the world. nothing is quite like it. the thing i think i like most is the fact that it is like falling in love every single time i hear the albums in full, certain songs and seeing them live.
nothing touches the way this kind of rock 'n' roll madness gets to me.

The Hold Steady are the first bad in a long long time for me that actually made me feel like i was listening to something really special and life changing. They lyrics and the music just come together and grab me in a way that music really hasnt for a while for me. They make me feel like I am in high school again. I could write a book about how much i love this band.

The Hold Steady is the perfect balance between immediate, thrilling and fun and thoughtful, complex and eternal. It is Funternal.

I first heard Stay Positive and liked it. Then I got ahold of SS and BAGIA and haven't stop listening since. I think it's difficult to explain to someone who doesn't listen regularly (as if I'm some expert) but once you have you don't want to stop. I love the fact that the stories continue throughout records. The images through words. The all out rock the band brings; you know immediately that the guys aren't hypocrits.
Then I got to a show and only want more. If I had the cash I would fly overseas and follow the Rock and Roll Means Well tour around.

Best Band EverSo you're saying if they get really popular you're not going to like them anymore? No but you should understand when I say that , when every one likes the band part of the magic is gone. Me, my Dad, one of my teachers, and you guys are the only people I know who like THS. So they're like a secret band to me. Kings Of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines... It wasn't the same after they went massive. I didn't stop liking them, I just don't like being part of "the crowd" and naturally don't conform. Also, popularity corrupts some bands, and their output turns to shit.

Note, whilst I want the boys to do well, I don't want them to become a chart band, because evidence shows it really does affect bands, and they go on to the release their "OOooo we're popular now, how do we deal with it?" album, shortly followed by the "back to our roots" album
