RE: crushing lows. Train cancelled yesterday back to Manc! Minor incursion on the accumulated joy though. Back home in the end.
Lovely to meet and put faces to board names. Too many to remember, and some I’ve not seen in YEARS too. Great show on Saturday... next time I’m in for all shows. Felt like I just dipped my toe in this weekend.
Craig was on top form preacher man mode too on Sat - assume the same for Fri/Sun too?! Did a great speech.

Went to Friday and Saturday nights and it's now Monday afternoon and I'm still smiling about the gigs. The soundcheck was also fun on Friday and meeting the band for a few drinks and photos was great. They are all such nice people, easy to talk to, they genuinely want to engage with their fans. My wife and I got talking with Galen in particular - talking about holiday destinations - and he is such a great fella, really interested in what we were saying. Craig is right about this being the best line up of THS - the twin guitar attack AND Franz is unbelievably good. The whole room - stage and floor were well up for it both nights - a true bond between audience and band. The energy levels were at ten from the start and never dropped. The set lists for both nights were perfectly judged. The inclusion of the Brooklyn EP songs across both nights demonstrated the strength of those new songs. 'Eureka' was the stand out for me. I was also lucky to meet some great people in the crowd - shout out to the couple from Memphis (whose kid went to the same school as Steve's!),the couple from Chicago, the American guy who had flown in from Korea, the guys from Norway and it was fantastic to meet Howard from Yorkshire on Friday night, what a lovely guy. Would seriously consider doing it all again somewhere else - Brooklyn? Minneapolis?

Thanks, guys! This was just great. Sweated it out in the pit on Friday, enjoyed it quite calmly from the balcony on Saturday - both nights felt really right. A bit bummed to see the setlist from Sunday. I couldn't be there anyway, but man, I should have been there.
The band seemed to be really into it. It's not fair to compare, but they all seemed even more fired up than in Brooklyn. You could sort of tell that (especially) Craig felt both thankful and energized about still having such a dedicated audience in UK. Not that it would come as a surprise, but I got that feeling.
Hopefully, we'll get to do it again sometime soon. In UK or in the US. I can't guarantee I'll sign up for another four nighter in Brooklyn in 2018, but I'm gonna do it again eventually.

I did it the other way around - close to the mixing desk for Friday, in amongst it on Saturday. Just an amazing atmosphere in the "PIT" (once drunk whistling guy had buggered off!). Thanks to those who propped me up, randomly high fived me etc. Spent a couple of songs next to Delboy before being spat out to the side. Like you, I missed Sunday due to already booked travel plans, but "Sweet Payne" was the only song I went "DAMN" to when I saw the setlist (plus I think Positive Jam is the ultimate gig opener). I am looking forward to a message in September which is entitled something like "UK - let this be our annual reminder..."

Yeah, I think Sweet Payne is the only song played in London I haven't heard live before. And it's definitely top ten on a list of my favourite Hold Steady songs.

New user / first post here! South Carolina by way of Munich, I may have met some of you in the front row on Friday and/or Saturday.
So, I paid for the t-shirt and signed poster package, but realized on Sunday that I stupidly left the rolled-up posted on the Lufthansa plane in Munich. It was not turned in at the airport, so it would seem that the poster was trashed. Honestly, I'm pretty pissed at myself.
Now, I know it's impossible at this point to replace the autographs, but does anyone have any clue how I might get my hands on a replacement poster? Who was responsible for the merch at the shows? Or could I contact the artist? Or do any of you happen to have an "extra" to sell?
This weekend was the last hoorah of a three-year work assignment in Germany. I'm moving home in two weeks and would love to hang this poster up at home to commemorate an unbelievable journey.
Thanks for any help/tips you guys can give!

What a wonderful weekend that was, Jane & I spent Friday to Monday in London. Went to the sound check on Friday, stood chatting to a pilot from Virginia outside in the rain, heard Knuckles played, stood second row for the gig behind a bloke who kept his coat on all night & left a hot sweaty mess (me, not him). Sunday lunch with the band, sat with a chap from Canterbury & Mike from the states, had a long chat with Craig, delighted he remembered my name after hosting the Bungay house show, had a brief chat with the rest of the band. Front row for the gig, ended up on stage at the end & my other half Jane has a bruised backside from landing on the bass drum, ended with the briefest of chats with Jesus James Jangleton.Add in a visit to The Bucks Head for tea on the Friday & a pub near Kings Cross where we got chatting to a bloke who thought Norwich was an independent country & Lowestoft was near Newcastle & you have the perfect weekend, I was thinking we could pull another weekender sometime, so much joy.

signed up to also praise the london shows on Fri/Sat. They were absolutely mindblowingly good, so glad I made the trip over from the Netherlands. I'm there whenever THS plays in NL but they're booked in smallish venues most of the times they're here and never manage to get all tickets sold for some strange strange reason. They deserve a bigger audience but it's just not there. A few dozen guys returning the energy they put in and a few dozen more standing quietly in the back just can't compare to the entire Electric Ballroom rocking out and I think Craigs performance ends up reflecting that a little even though I'm sure he's not holding back on purpose. That made the contrast with the energy in the Electric Ballroom even better. I was at the front Friday though I backed off a bit before the end because I would have passed out I hadn't. Cheers to all of you people touching people that they don't even know (, yo) for making it a party up there and for keeping me on my feet while retreating, heh. Loved the second night too, shook hands and made some solid half hour friendships near the mixing table. Is bringing loads of canned beer to shows a UK thing? They're probably not on these boards but the bearded dude & friends sharing his stash of beer and joy and company with me back there were especially awesome - cheers again. Loved Slapped Actress, loved Most People Are DJs, got damn near emotional finally hearing 'I was all wrapped up in a video booth when I heard her say I love you too' in real life. I will be there whenever another London show happens, or maybe even go and visit Brooklyn some time next year if that ends up a repeating thing.
A little request to end with: I'm not a concert filmer in most circumstances but especially not when I'm into the music as much as I am at shows like these. I didn't want to miss a minute of that experience messing with my phone. That said, if it isn't against the rules, I would love to see any video material others may have made or know of posted online or wherever for reliving bits of those nights.
Stay Positive!

Is bringing loads of canned beer to shows a UK thing? It's not. The venue sells canned as well as draught beers. Handy for preventing spillage when returning through a packed crowd!

or maybe even go and visit Brooklyn some time next year if that ends up a repeating thing. I'd be surprised if Brooklyn doesn't happen again this year late November/early December. Craig hinted as much from the stage, and at least one other band member implied that it was almost a sure thing.

Had the absolute time of my life at these shows, and it was the best hanging out with some of you on Saturday night.
Random request: anyone catch what Craig yelled at the start of Party Pit? He did it on the Friday and Saturday shows (I wasn't at the Sunday one so idk about that). Something like "______ ______, PARTY PIT!!!" It was cool but my ears didn't decipher it
