Hi everyone - hopefully this is in the right board... I'm a new fan (having just discovered, a little late to the party I know), and wondering if there is any information or thoughts on the song meaning behind The Only Thing?
The reason I ask is because it seems pretty easy to project my own story onto it, but curious about if there are any ideas or interpretations? Especially the "last night her teeth were in my dreams" line...
Thanks if you can help!

genius.com/3001067this has some clues in it, and I think there's a commentary track on spotify. A lot of the fans believe that there is a unified universe of characters and story lines in the THS/LP/CF songs. I don't know if I believe that there is a distinct beginning/middle/end style tale to be told, but instead there are a few distinct characters that Craig has created to represent some tropes he likes to play with, so it's more a literature of references to new combinations of feelings than a narrative.

i get a lot of different ideas from this song. it sounds to me like someone who has fallen on hard times, suffering from anxiety (hence the teeth dreams), and missing a simpler time in their life. or sometimes i think the "only thing" lyrics are about total desperation, fixating on the only few things they've got. could go either way.
