The last date of Craig's "Living Room Tour" was at my good friend Scott's house in Baltimore. It was the 50th house show Scott and his wife have hosted at their place since the first one in late 2011. Just so you know these things don't happen by accident and nothing in Hold Steady world is done without meticulous planning, the seed was planted over two years ago to have Craig be #50 when I suggested to him we go to Scott's house on a tour off-day in that area. I actually met Scott when he hosted Wussy in his living room several years ago and the whole experience was stunning. The intimate setting for the music created an immediate insular community and I felt like I gained 20 new friends that night simply by sharing in something so special. Since then, I have been to multiple shows at his house and we have attended many others together at "real venues" around DC and Baltimore. My point is investigate house shows in your geographic area. With the right host and the right musician, they are transcendent experiences. There is a direct connection to what happens at a good house show and what happened back when this message board was the main (only?) game-planning communication vehicle for THS shows. As for this stop on the "Living Room Tour" the first show sold out instantly (50 tickets) so Craig agreed to an afternoon matinee show which then sold out in minutes. The afternoon show was amazing with complete silence during the songs, great stories and informative Q&A. There was a cutoff point that everyone had to leave to make room for the evening show but all attendees had a chance to buy merch, get autographs and pictures. The evening show was a little more beer-soaked and fun. The stories and Q&A were longer and funnier and there were a few more songs - I had it at an hour and 45 performance. Photos from Baltimore: via Facebookvia FlickrSaw some old school Unified Scene folks yesterday and sent them their own photos to share and hopefully chime in about the experience too. The bar for best show in 2017 has been set pretty damn high just 3 weeks into the year.

Great photos (as ever), Rich.
These shows look like such great, intimate experiences. I'm glad for you all, but awfully jealous!

I was at the Bawlmer matinee show. Very, very nice. It was stunning in a low-key sense. I really enjoyed the info between songs. I wouldn't have liked it for a generic band like Joe and the Schmoes. But for Craig....yeah! He's my hero. I wanted to be Robert Plant at age 16. Now at 48 I want to be Craig Finn.
Makes me want to host a house concert with some of my other heroes (who no sane person has ever heard of).
BTW, I sat at QWERTY and refreshed, refreshed and refreshed when the evening show was to go on sale. I sold out like...Springsteen at the 9:30. I didn't get tix. Thankfully a matinee came later. I didn't know that I was struggling against a truly dedicated Club 603 fanbase.

Damn, I would've loved to hear that! Thanks to anyone here who might have been at the Cincinnati show, it was wonderful getting to meet and talk to everyone there. Cincinnati was a delight!!!! Great to meet you! Oh hey, same! It took me a moment, but I remember you reacting when I mentioned the forums at the show, haha.

I didn't know that I was struggling against a truly dedicated Club 603 fanbase. I think it was like buzzing in at a game show. The first people who did it at the right split second sold it out. Only 50 tickets and yes, Club603 has its own set of followers because he has hosted 50 shows now and all his neighbors trust his judgement on who he brings in. Craig was obviously a no-brainer and people were ready.

Were any of the Living Room shows recorded? I don't care if it's a bad micro-cassette from under a couch recording, I just want to hear them.

Before the first song of each show Craig made an eloquent statement which basically said "This is a living room show and I'd like to keep it as that, a shared experience between all of us in this room together so please no recording or video" and then would go onto say after the show he'd stay as long as it took to take photos with anyone and everyone that wanted to but he wanted to keep the music experience a little sacred.
