Will be really cool to hear HiW/Teeth Dreams tracks with Franz live! Was just thinking that about "Our Whole Lives!" Which BTW has been woefully underplayed.

I still maintain that HIW is a very unfairly maligned record. It's definitely my favorite HiW song. Good hook, lots of great little bits in the lyrics ("making guitars out of tennis rackets," "Gonna make a pre-emptive strike, hit the 5:30 Mass every Saturday night," "I didn't know you could dance like that; I'm gonna have to ask you to take two steps back"). Better than most of Stay Positive, too, though I'm not sure it's competitive with the best of Sep Sunday and BAGIA. Would be very psyched to hear it live, regardless.

From the sounds of Craig's interview on Steven Hyder's podcast, he doesn't think much of HiW outside of the Weekenders and Sweet Part. It's too bad because I think if they had included the bonus tracks (Touchless and Ascension Blues) instead of a few songs in the first half, then HiW would be better than Stay Positive. A few of the songs (Barely Breathing, Slight Discomfort) actually strike me as stronger examples of the 'mature THS' sound that emerges on SP. But that's just like, my opinion, man.

I'm glad I am not alone in my alternate view on HiW. I really like it as an album and always wondered how any one could hate it.

HiW has a really strong batch of songs, but I've always felt the production leaves a lot to be desired. The guitars sound crunchy and everything tends to evaporate upon impact rather than resonate. Just my $0.02.

Just my $0.02. I'll agree with that. It sounds muddled in spots. Still a great bunch of songs, though I'd probably swap a track to have Ascension Blues on the album proper. One of my favorite criticisms when it came out was about the chorus to The Smidge: "Craig is one of the best lyricists of all time, it pains me to hear him sing "Living living living living living for the smidge." I laughed so hard at the number of people who complained about that. It's called a hook, people. The man already crams way more words into a sentence than most are capable of.

When do we start speculating about possible openers and surprises? Too soon? I'm bored at work.

When do we start speculating about possible openers and surprises? Too soon? I'm bored at work. All that depressing logistical stuff that Rich discussed awhile back comes into play here. It's probably going to be bands who aren't touring at the time who can get all their members and gear to Brooklyn for a night with minimal expense. Which kinda crushes my dream for a DBT night.

Yeah, but on the positive side there are a lot of great bands living in Brooklyn/NYC.

Yeah, but on the positive side there are a lot of great bands living in Brooklyn/NYC. This is actually what I was somewhat hoping for. Cool as it would be to have someone like DBT or Beach Slang, it'd be equally great to discover someone new and local on the bill. If we're going with already knowns from Brooklyn, I'd be thrilled with Parquet Courts or Japanese Breakfast.

Truckers are too big for an opening slot, but Beach Slang is still up and coming-ish and a lot of the older THS fans probably haven't heard of them. Philly is local enough haha. Plus throw in the fact that Craig came out and guested with them at the Mats show they did at the Knitting Factory and they'll be on tour through November 23rd (albeit in Europe). Could see it happening

Because we havent said anything yet... both Cory and I will be there for all nights I think this was assumed by everyone, kinda of like we assume the sun will rise tomorrow morning. I will be bringing lots of confetti... so get ready! I would like to be informed of the game-plan for photography captures. Merci.
