Google says it was released on the Australian edition of AKM. Although it's not listed on their 2003 demo that craig posted here (which includes Milkcrate): http://instagram.com/p/6WKRDYAdwD So my guess is B-side from the actual AKM sessions?

I don't know anything about the vinyl, but curves and nerves is an incredible song. Very lifter pullery. I kinda wish it was on AKM just so it would maybe get played live, although it probably wouldn't have got that well...

It is - as you say - on the Australian version of AKM. I'm just curious about the record I linked to in the first post. I've never seen it around on the internet, before it suddenly popped up on Ebay the other day.

Yup, I have a copy. Both this and the Milkcrate Mosh 7" came out after AKM was released, not before.
The Swish was on the HS website as an MP3 for close to a year prior to AKM being released, so it was technically the first Hold Steady song out there, and AKM came before anything else. (Curves and Nerves was one of a few songs that also got posted to the website as an MP3 for a brief period, but that was after the LAG release)
Not sure why the release date for LAG is given as 2003 in the ad you're seeing on Ebay. I recall this being announced on the website right around the same time the Milkcrate Mosh 7" was announced, and it was most certainly after AKM was out. Odd that the listing doesn't display the actual magazine itself, really only shows the record.
Edited to add--wonder if the seller reads this board--two pics of the magazine are now posted (although the release date still says 2003).

I actually though Milkcrate Mosh was released in 2003 as well, but I stand corrected. And it's nice to know that it actually started with Positive Jam

Right around the same time as Milkcrate Mosh and the LAG magazine release, Modesto is Not That Sweet and You Gotta Dance came out on the Crisp Songs Volume 1 sampler on EMusic (Crisp Songs was supposed to be a long-running series of releases of artists picked by Craig, but it only lasted two volumes).
A little later (2005 if my memory serves me correctly), Curves and Nerves and Hot Fries were posted as MP3s for download on the HS website. A bit later, remixes of The Swish and Killer Parties were posted for a while. The only other non-LP release I recall them posting as an MP3 on the website was a cover of Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

I remember discovering those remixes when I first got into Hold Steady. Haven't heard them in eight or nine years. Haha, funny that the pictures have been added. I found it a bit cheaper on Discogs and ordered it. A pretty useless release to own, but it feels stupidly good to add it to the collection. Now I need to fint that 4 Dix seven inch to make it complete.

Does anyone have the remixes? Are they just mixed slightly differently or are they more like reworkings? Would be interested in hearing those..

Because of the way the remixes were "released" it's kind of a weird situation...years ago, they were up on the Hold Steady's website freely available to download, but my understanding of the board rules is that it's not allowed to post them here because they are "studio recordings".

Maaaan, does anyone know if those demos are floating around anywhere? I've always wanted to hear them but have never been able to find them anywhere. They are out there, but if you've heard AKM, you're not missing much (not that the demo versions are bad--it's just that they are nearly identical to the album versions, so it's not like you'll hear a different twist on one of the songs...)

Aren't the demos the same recordings as the album? Maybe some slight differences in the mixing but I could barely tell the difference
