Got an email last night from Craig's mailing list.
Hey Everyone across the Atlantic!
I wanted to check in with all of you since I don’t have any immediate plans to be over there (but I hope to make it happen before too long). Most importantly, I wanted to reach out and let you know I’ve got the UK on my mind. I’ve had such great support from over there I don’t want anyone to think I’m forgetting them.
My new record Faith In the Future is coming out on 11 September on Partisan Records. I’m extremely proud of the record and super excited for everyone to hear it. It was a blast to make, and I think it’s a little different from anything I’ve done before. Our approach on the record was to try to keep the narratives clear throughout the record, and really prioritize the storytelling. It was produced by a guy named Josh Kaufman who really helped me think about the songs in different ways. Joe Russo played drums and he is one of the most musical people I’ve ever been around. We made it up in Woodstock, NY, which is a fantastic place to create music. We got snowed in a bunch, which I think actually helped the record’s vibe somehow.
Over the summer I did a bunch of dates with Jason Isbell and The Heartless Bastards. Both tours were really fun and saw a lot of the U.S., including some places I’ve never been before. I did those shows both solo and as a duo with my friend Arun Bali. We have a Fall U.S. tour planned which will feature a full four-piece band, and it should be awesome.
I just got back from a one off show in St. Louis, and am now going to head to the Jersey Shore for a few days of rest before going out to the West Coast to do some promo. My beloved Minnesota Twins had a good start this year but have fallen back to earth. It’s a good young team though, so I’m staying positive for the years to come. Speaking of sports, I’m not sure attaching my football fandom to the Queens Park Rangers will bring me a ton of joy, but it’s still the team that feels right to me. It just might be hard to get to watch them this year…
I’ll leave you with a few things I’ve been enjoying this summer.
Books: Await Your Reply by Dan Choan
The Last Love Song (Joan Didion biography) by Tracy Daughtery
Wine: Gruner Vetliner
Movies: Love & Mercy
Music: Titus Andronicus - The Most Lamentable Tragedy
Jason Isbell - Something More Than Free
The Heartless Bastards - Restless Ones
Blind Shake & John Reis - Modern Surf Classics
England’s Glory - Lost Album
Hard Girls - A Thousand Surfaces
Jesse Malin - New York Before The War
Mac McCaughan - Non-Believers
I’ve also become absolutely re-obsessed with the Shine a Light album by The Constantines. That band is so incredible, one of my all time favorites. I also saw Titus Andronicus' record release show recently here in Brooklyn, and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen (and they even let me sing a Replacements song with them)! Please do go see them when they come over. They will not disappoint.
Alright everyone, I’ll be in touch again soon. I do hope to get over before too long, I absolutely love touring over there so I hope to make it back before the next changing of The Guards.
Oh, and the requisite mention: If You Haven't Already, Click Here To Pre-Order Faith In The Future
