I saw Craig open for Jason Isbell this past week in Jacksonville. During the set, Craig mentioned that he would have a new solo record coming out "in a couple of months." I didn't see any confirmation of that on here, so I thought I'd share.

Great news!
Edit: Actually, ths made me happier than I first realised. I think his first album is pretty great. It's not crazy exciting or anything, but it's a really, really nice album. Sweet tunes and a very different sound. I remember Pitchfork critized the album for the lack of loud guitars. And while I see what they mean, I kind of enjoyed the muted, weird soundscape of the midtempo songs. They felt very regular and familiar, but still different.
Besides, it's always interesting to hear what kind of universe - both lyrically and musically - Craig cooks up on his own.
Very much anticipated.

Pretty excited about this. Clear Heart Full Eyes is a keeper, and I really enjoyed the more mid-tempo, quieter approach as a change of pace. I've wanted a THS album of Sweet Part/Cheyenne/Lord, I'm Discouraged type songs for a while, and CHFE was as close as I've gotten.

Any setlist notes? Anyone going to the Westbury show tonight? I'll be there. Looking forward to the show as I really liked CHFE. Also, I'm just getting into Jason Isbell, I picked up Southeastern recently and it's anywhere from a very solid to a great disc.

So, the show last night was really good. Craig Finn played 7 - 8 songs, all were new and unfamiliar to me. Some titles: Christine, Sandra from Scranton, and Sara. Someone played a song called Trapper Avenue; for the life of me I can't remember if it was CF or Jason Isbell who played it. Sorry, but I can't remember any other titles.
If this is what his next solo album will be, the album will be a good one. Perhaps a little less twangy and country than CHFE. A couple of the songs easily could be Hold Steady songs.

Any tapers at these shows? Pretty sure Jason stopped letting people tape awhile ago.

I really hope it includes a bunch of those songs that he's been kicking around live solo since the last tour but werent on the record. There were a bunch that were better than a lot of songs on the record IMO:
"Some Guns" "Sarah I'm Surrounded" "Dennis and Billy" and "One Single Savior"
are all fantastic songs. They deserve to be on an album

"Some Guns" and "Sarah" were on a 7" and (i think) were available on iTunes, so i'd be really surprised if they show up on an album. "one single savior" would be wonderful

when i saw craig right after CHFE came out, the explanation he gave before he played "sarah" made me like the song even more. he said something about how there are so many songs and books and movies about people leaving a small town for the big city, but so few stories about what happens when that fails and the person has to go crawling back home and ask for something from the people they abandoned.
