So since "Teeth Dreams" has pretty much played out as far as sales and songs from it are diminishing from the latest set lists when do you think we'll see the next album and tour??

I'd love to hear a new record within a year or so like they used to, but I doubt it :/

Friend I would say that I might be jumping the gun but as far as sales and promotion the album is pretty much dead. I saw a few posts down that Craig has a few projects in the pipeline and maybe a new solo album might be one, who knows??

I wouldn't say the album or album cycle is dead yet. The boys still hit the UK this fall, will probably hit Australia and other stray countries early next year, and then I'd imagine some more U.S. touring in the spring or summer (though not as extensive as this year's tour). It hasn't even been 6 months since Teeth Dreams came out!

Cool interview! I like Tad's answer re: full album tours.

Nice article, thanks. BTW Mtruslow - earplugs don't diminish the experience at all. You'll actually hear them more clearly.
Copying and pasting TKs answer the original question below:
PB: One more thing to wrap things up—what’s next after this tour? The band’s hitting Europe in the fall, and I’m sure it’s way too early to talk about the next record, but what will you be doing, personally, as well as the band?
TK: I think that, hopefully, it’s not [too early to talk about the new record]. We’d like to get back to the pace we were working at. With the way technology is and how things are working within the music industry, I feel like there’s all these ways to release music or to reach people. My goal is to try to be creating something all the time because it seems like there’s ways to have people hear it, or see it, or what have you. I want to try and figure out a way to do that.
I would love to make more videos—that, to me, is kind of an exciting part of the process of making a record, which we haven’t done in the past. I always think they’re really interesting. It’s nothing we’ve really explored before. For The Hold Steady it’s difficult because the lyrics are so literal. I feel like you can either do a literal interpretation of the narrative or you have to go completely the the other way, and it’s hard to know where to take that but I’d love to try to figure that out. Other than that, it’s just writing more music, playing shows. I guess we’ll see what happens in the next few months, but I would say we’ll get back into the studio probably pretty shortly after we’re off the road.
Author’s Note: It’s rare to see any rock band keep on fighting the good fight after ten years of rapid-fire studio sessions, world tours and plenty of partying, but The Hold Steady continues to age with grace. If Tad is serious about heading back to the pace of the band’s first three releases, we’re in for another exciting decade of ranting and riffing. Trends come and go, but The Hold Steady springs eternal.

I think your set list premise is false. They play Frightened and Spinners at every show, they almost always play Ambassador, and you're also pretty much guaranteed to get either Big Cig or Only Thing too. That's about half the record, which is a really good ratio compared to some of their other albums - [Positive Jam, Swish], [Summer, Memphis, Stay Positive, Magazines], [Rock Problems]. Oaks and Business are getting played more than they did on release. Almost Everything is clearly inferior to Ambassador which makes Wait a While and Runner's High the only ones that really left out to me.

Not sure why Runner's High isn't on every set list!

Almost Everything is clearly inferior to Ambassador which makes Wait a While and Runner's High the only ones that really left out to me. For that matter, there are several set lists from this tour that are virtually devoid of Almost Killed Me-era songs. I don't think it's a conscious thing in this situation (as opposed to other bands who feel the need to "push the new record") so much as there's an effort to strike a balance between what they feel like playing and what the audience wants to hear.

Not sure why Runner's High isn't on every set list! SERIOUSLY I don't think they played anything from AKM in Philly this past Monday. I didn't even notice til after the show. The set worked really well.

Not sure why Runner's High isn't on every set list! I'd like to hear this one live too. That friggin' vocal reverb ruins the studio version for me, but the music has such a swagger to it.

Not too early. I need a new album...TD has kind of left a bad taste in my mouth for some reason and I hope that a couple of years from now we can agree that it is a transitional record while the band enjoys a renaissance. I would also LOVE a follow up to CHFE. Craig's solo stuff slays me.

Sorry, but I'm absolutely sure that Teeth Dreams is a damn good record.
Certainly their most accessible yet.
Would also love more CF solo too.

I'll be ready whenever THS and CF drop new records on us, but I'd like to see the full THS play a headlining gig supporting Teeth Dreams before they do. I really dig this album, so I'm OK enjoying the promotion of it for a while longer.

I'm sure I've seen a couple of of CF solo gigs popping up, I would not be at all surprised if he does another album.
Buuut, I would like to see another THS one more. They're showing no signs of slowing down, I'm sure they've got a few more albums in them.

Friend I would say that I might be jumping the gun but as far as sales and promotion the album is pretty much dead. Even albums could be "dead" (a notion which, let me state for the record, I whole heartedly disagree with) the barometer of such life and death would not be sales or promotion. Teeth Dreams lives.
