Intercepting the guys on a drive back to Kentucky, really pumped for this show because it's the first one I get to go to with my best friend. Who else is coming?

This is gonna be a boring show if I'm the only scene kid. What does it take to make a good scene report?

I'm going. Still looking for anybody to drive together from Columbus. They just played Columbus in Winter, so maybe that's why.

I'll be there. Driving straight from Bloomington, Indiana, after work, so I won't be there as early as I usually like to be, but I'll come bearing gifts for the scene. Seeya then!

I'll be there. I'll be getting some tasty waffles and Belgian beer at Taste Of Belgium just down the street beforehand if anyone cares to join. I'll probably get down there about 2 hours before the show starts. I'm kind of confused about the show time though. Bogart's website says the show starts at 7, but my ticket says the doors open at 7. I've fired a tweet off to Bogart's account to see for sure. If you see a fat guy with short hair wearing this shirt, say hi! enjoythisbeautifulday.com/img/2009/woxy_lg.jpg

I have that shirt. And about 12 other WOXY ones too. I am reminded of a story (mis-remembered? embellished?) when THS played an acoustic set at WOXY when their studios were in that warehouse building down by the Ohio River. This was at the beginning of BAGIA touring I think and Tad did not even have an acoustic guitar in the van at that point. That day I think they bought one at a Walmart or something for $99 specifically for the session. I remember Dusty said they hauled that piece of crap around for weeks in the cardboard box it came in. They got back home to NYC at the end of that leg of the tour, opened the back doors of the truck, the acoustic guitar fell out and smashed into bits.

Haha, that's a great story. I have a bunch of WOXY shirts too, and know 4 of their former DJs.

I called Bogart's earlier. Doors at 7, Deer Tick at 8. Cool. I'll be getting to Taste Of Belgium Clifton (http://www.authenticwaffle.com/clifton.html) at 5:30 or so if anyone cares to join. It's just a block or two from Bogart's.

Buddy of mine and I will be rolling in about 8. I'll be wearing a green shirt with a face that says "jimmy". I've lost the beard since the harrisburg show.
Feel free to buy me beer to console me about my new journey into unemployment.

Nomination for "best lyricist other than Adam Duritz": the dude from deer tick for "let's go to the bar" "shitty music festival" and "pot", which is about crack.

Yay, Charlemagne finally makes an appearance. Tell me Steve was there for the full two guitar assault.

Yay, Charlemagne finally makes an appearance. Tell me Steve was there for the full two guitar assault. Nope, no Steve tonight. Though two songs were backed by Deer Tick's lead guitarist, and him and Deer Tick's singer came out for Easy in the encore.

It was really nice to meet Nowah and I'm That Guy tonight. Thanks for bringing the confetti, Nowah. I finally got it all washed off my body.

Pretty good show. I'd say the venue reached 40% capacity at it's peak and went back down to 25%-30% capacity for the Hold Steady. It was Deer Tick country through and through. The band and the crowd took a while to warm up for that reason. Eventually Craig seemed really into it. Security was pissed about the confetti and basically barked us all away the second the boys left stage. All in all a fun show but I'd be surprised if they come to Cincinnati again soon. Met a lot of nice people and got to see Charlemagne and Citrus live for the first time. Always a good time when Adderall makes an appearance too.

I'd say the venue reached 40% capacity at it's peak and went back down to 25%-30% capacity for the Hold Steady. Yikes. As a born and bred Ohioan from Dayton - just an hour north of Cincinnati, who like many others left for greener pastures educationally, culturally and etc etc ... allow me to point out that: Guided By Voices (from Dayton) never made traction in Ohio or anywhere until a couple lucky breaks via mailings of vinyl that landed in the right hands (Matt Sweeney) and got them an audience in NYC. Wussy (from Cincinnati) remains one of the finest bands in the land that also can not get any traction in Ohio despite residency in the most interesting part of the city for music, food and independent commerce (specifically Shake It Records is of note) and being celebrated by Robert Christgau :: www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/The-312/August-2012/Wussy-the-Best-Band-in-America-Plays-the-Bucktown-Arts-Festival/. THS has never made much big traction there including a couple weird and underwhelming festival appearances (not their fault - just lame events). I blame the Buckeyes. Signed, Rich (still in Virginia)

Good call on the Belgian Waffles and Chicken. Tasty and distinctive. Didn't roll into hard-Corryville till around 7:15, and walked into the venue just as Deer Tick started. It was surprisingly easy to walk up to the front, so while it wasn't great for the band, it worked out well for the die-hards. (I drove 292 miles round trip, which I'm sure is not a record.). Young Trevor was just in front of me, leaning against the barricade but not especially into the show as far as I could tell. Ybor City was not mentioned once.

Forgot to mention that the band went into their usual Hoodrat breakdown during Charlemagne and Craig cheesed for the audience with a Cincinatti Reds baseball cap for a very long time before saying that there was something he wanted to ask us and going, "do you want me to tell it like it's boy meets girl and the rest is history, or do you want it like a murder mystery? Because I think I want to tell it like a comeback story." It was awesome.
