Who's in? I'm driving two and a half hours straight from work, grabbing a beer or two on my way in the door, and plopping front row center as early as possible.

i'm there... saw them at the same venue on the rock n' roll means well tour... wasn't exactly thrilled with the joint, but i already had jason isbell tickets in cincy on feb 3, so couldn't make the columbus show instead. of course, everything i've been to a show in columbus, i've hated everyone there. bummed i can't go up to beachland, that's still one of the best shows i've been to -- and made it a doubleheader by going to the indians game beforehand and getting the rick vaughn bobblehead

I'm in. I saw them at Headliner's in 2011, and it was a small crowd. We'll see you up front!

The Swish You Can Make Him Like You I Hope This Whole Thing Didn't Frighten You Banging Camp Chips Ahoy! Rock Problems Magazines Knuckles The Ambassador Spinners Sequestered in Memphis Stevie Nix Almost Everything Your Little Hoodrat Friend Southtown Girls How a Resurrection Really Feels --- Positive Jam Constructive Summer Hot Soft Light Stuck Between Stations Massive Nights Stay Positive
The set list originally had On With The Business in Massive Nights' place and Hot Soft Light as part of the encore but I don't think it was part of the encore. EDIT: Maybe it was part of the encore.
Headliners is an incredible venue. The stage is about eleven people wide (if you're not touching people you don't even know) and as high as an average adult waist. Front row and just a few people Tad side had me six inches from the drum kit. Definitely the kind of place the boys should be staging their comeback.
I wasn't expecting much from Tim Barry but he was great. Really got the energy flowing.
Craig and Tad really seemed surprised and humbled that we all still care as much as we do. And Louisville cared a lot. The vibe I'm getting from scene reports is a lot of tension release from missing the band for so long while they were holed up in Memphis. Lots of eye contact from Craig all across the tiny, packed room. He doesn't play guitar on any of the new tracks. Almost Everything blew me away. There's no bass on it and the drums only come in halfway through - and they're muted. There's a line about drinking and talking about hardcore and Krishna and joy. I didn't get a good feel for Ambassador because that was the requisite part in the set that a dude on ecstasy pushed up to the front and started hassling people. There weren't any fights (truthfully, in Chicago, there's usually one or two).
I let a pretty girl in a leopard print tank top up front with me because everyone else was glued to their fuckin' phones taking pictures during Swish. She was the best. I kind of fell for her. And then she disappeared!
Probably my second favorite of the six Hold Steady shows I've seen, after new year's in Montclair. The new record is going to scorch the Earth.

She was the best. I kind of fell for her. And then she disappeared! I swear this happens at nearly every Hold Steady show.

A very good show, and well worth the trip from Durham.
Thanks to travel, we walked in the door at 10:13 while the PA was playing Lou Reed singing "we're gonna have a real good time together". Unlike the other time I saw THS at Headliners, the club was packed. We stake out about the only remaining spots (to the left of the soundboard) and literally one minute later, I see Craig walking onstage and the show starts. I think the guy who was asking about taping the show was about 5 feet to the right of me - there was a mast with a pair of mics that he was tending.
So the sound was good, and there was just enough room to move at the back of the crowd where we were without touching people you don't even know, but next time I'm going to be much closer to the front. For the record, I really liked Almost Everything, but the song that has been going through my head today is Knuckles :-).
Everyone had a real good time together.

If Drews taped, count on it being stellar.

If Drews taped, count on it being stellar. I did tape, dead center at the soundboard. Sound is pretty good considering the circumstances.

So does anyone know if Al Gamble is on keys live with them?
Will he be touring?
If so, keys + 2 / 3 guitars opens up some interesting sound / song possibilities.

No keys. I don't know where people are getting this idea.

Oh. Listened to it again, and just realized I'm an idiot. I thought that the tremolo'd guitar playing the high notes in the background starting around 2:00 were keys. Now I hear that's totally wrong. In my defense I'm a little bit hung over. Might aswell change my rushed original comment: The tremolo'd guitar playing the high notes sounds amazing!
