PS The Last Thing I Ever Wanted is so goddamn good. I think these are the lyrics...
Liquid boy reads paper fortune Hears the sirens on the ocean What a mixed up time for locomotion
Traffic light turns green then yellow Reckless love can change a fellow All your molecules collide
I don't remember if I told you I'm going out to California And everything's gonna be alright
But the last thing I ever wanted was to show up and blow your mind
Me, the fool you took for granted Always there when you crash landed Now I know that's how you planned it
With my courage up, I've come to sell ya Skull and bones and stormy weather And trouble if we're still together
I don't remember if I told you I'm going out to California And everything's gonna be alright
But the last thing I ever wanted was to show up and blow your mind

I can't stand kiss but I love what they did with that song. Totally made it their own. Wait... What?

This version reminds me of Thin Lizzy somehow?

WOW! I would be really shocked if Closer to the Stars wasn't Craig's pick as he used to always refer to Soul Asylum as one of his favorite bands and he saw them a couple dozen times during the era that song was released; it's also my personal favorite Soul Asylum song, especially live. Craig was also a big Grifters and presumably Those Bastard Souls fan, I know he used to talk about David Shouse as being a lyrical inspiration back in the Lifter Puller days and referenced the Replacements and Grifters rock N roll styles to have initially inspired him to start a rock band after Lifter Puller (THS). I'm ultra happy with this, I can't wait for the record!

They just sound so wimpy and lame to me. It's all shtick and costumes and the songs fall so flat. Costumes can be done well (the misfits and Devo are two of my favorite bands), but with kiss i always felt like they were used to cover up any actual interesting songwriting. Blahhhh

Yes, for $5. Just click the Pledge Now button under the video, not any of the exclusives on the right side. Thanks, but it says I have to choose at least one exclusive. Try putting in an additional amount (at the bottom of the list of exclusives) of $5 (which should change your total to $10) and then change the additional amount back to $0 (which should change your total back to $5 for just the download). Doing that worked for me yesterday.

But without Kiss there'd be no Kiss Cover Versions. I love Kiss Cover Versions so very much. And Alive I I is perfect.

God Gave Rock & Roll To You is a really good song. Hold Steady's version of Hard Luck Woman is way better than the original. Peter Criss's book is absolutely bonkers. I was telling Brendan on facebook the other day how much I love Last Thing I Ever Wanted. I'm not familiar with Those Bastard Souls but there are points in the track where you can tell they obviously influenced Craig greatly. I'd only put Hey Hey, Hard Luck Woman, and maybe Atlantic City anywhere near the top of my favorite Hold Steady songs. Nothing sounds as good out of Craig's mouth as Craig's words do.

Blahhhh agreed, i don't think not liking Kiss is a controversial opinion. In fact, I'd say it's rather common. I never really dug them.

I always saw Kiss as more a staple food of the rock buffet than a main course. The tunes are nursery rhymes in the life of a rocker. Everyone's a Kiss fan before they grow up and into real bands. But the idea of not liking them. That's like not liking Pringles.

That's a good point. A lot of bands I like say the first record they ever bought was Kiss Alive or some other Kiss record. But you hardly ever hear 'Kiss was a big influence on our new album'.

All of my really formative tunes were from nirvana and then punk rock. I didn't really pay much attention to music before that

All Through the City - Galen Closer To The Stars - Bobby Hard Luck Woman - Steve I Gotta Get Drunk - Tad The Last Thing I Ever Wanted Was to Show Up and Blow Your Mind - Craig You got it now. I have no idea whose idea the Billy Squier Christmas song was and I have a fuzzy memory of that maybe being this mysterious "6th song" folks are seeing somehow. Maybe? I don't know. Yep, it's the Squire. Just started downloading on it's own right after RAGS downloaded. The covers are really amazing. Second and third listens really cemented that for me.

Are there liner notes? Don't know who sang all the originals. "All Through the City" - Dr. Feelgood "Closer to the Stars" - Soul Asylum "Hard Luck Woman" - KISS "I Gotta Get Drunk" - Willie Nelson "The Last Thing I Ever Wanted Was to Show Up and Blow Your Mind" - Those Bastards Souls Still looking for someone to take some hacks at which band member picked which song. (The KISS one is Steve's ... confirmed) Thanks!!
