I liked his last one a lot more than I thought I would. I've not heard anything from the new one though, is it any good ?

The Wrestler is great, Working On A Dream is okey, I'm not a big fan of My Lucky Day but it's not bad. I've only heard Life Itself once but it seemed good. That's all available tracks, isn't it?

Yeah, that's all that's available yet. I'm really surprised this hasn't leaked yet. We're two weeks out....Sony really is doing a great job keeping a lid on this one...

Another one out there as of today. "Surprise, Surprise".
Pretty easy to find. It's even on youtube.
Not liking this one at all.....

I liked Working on a Dream for awhile, but then I played some Roy Orbision and he made Bruce seem like a slightly above average tribute singer.

OK, now it's out there.
Hmmm. A couple of stand out tracks, but mostly pretty light fare from Mr. Springsteen. I'm going to have to give this one time, to see if I like it at all.
Something tells me I'll be listening to Major General more this week, for sure.

Kingdom of Days is actually so bad its funny. Think Bruce in a black spangled jumpsuit with Celine Dion coming in off the side to duet. It sounds like the kind of song that plays at the end of an ABC Afterschool Special about a blind girl and her one legged dog.

This is not a good record. But judge for yourself. This is like a Weird Al parody of Springsteen-ish music.

You can sample all the tracks on www.brucespringsteen.net and NPR will be streaming the entire CD this Monday 1/19. Wayne

Ya know that Reese's commercial where the guy with the peanutbutter smashes into the guy with the chocolate? Think of Bruce running over Brian Wilson, and all of Brian's guts getting caught up underneath Bruce's Roadrunner, but he thinks that it makes his engine sound better, so he leaves them there.Thats what this album is like. With strings. And overdubs. And love. Lots of love.

First spin on this one leaves a lot to be desired, yet, I'm still engaged with it. It's obviously weaker than it's predecessor.. I miss those flourishes of E Street magic that permeated the last record. Gonna spin a few more times.

Been a huge Springsteen fan for 30 years. In fact, until this year I hadn't traveled to see anyone else live (thanks THS!).
After living with this record for a week now...it's growing on me a bit. Musically, I think it's great. Lyrically, it's quite the dud.
That said, I think the highs (Last Carnival, Good Eye, Outlaw Pete (Kiss-controversy, included)) are all higher than Magic, the lows, however, are definitely lower.

I think it's solid. It's not up with the breathless perfection of his best stuff, but it's solid.

I think these days just having the word Springsteen on the album makes it "solid". If Magic was a freshman album you would have never even heard about it . Ever.

Jack Wow - I've only listened to it twice straight through but I found nothing that lived up to Gypsy Biker, Devil's Arcade, Long Road Home, Last to Die or Magic. I think it does have the chance to grow on me - except for the title track, but I found the whole "infatuation with pop music" phase quite unexciting. I've also been a fan of Bruce for 30 years (80 shows) and THS is also the only other band I have travelled to see (well 100 miles or so with an overnight stay which I think counts). Wayne

I bought it. It's awful.
Bruce and the ESB albums are supposed to rock- this does not. Not even a little.
This is background music. Bruce shouldn't put an album of background music out ever.
Instead of buying it, 12 of you should send me a dollar to cover the cost of the CD and thank me for the money you'll save.
It's like Bruce needed some songs for American Idol contestants to sing on Springsteen appreciation night. Now he's got some.

OK. I'll say it. It's shit isn't it? Sorry I didn't even get all the way through. Oh and while I'm at it. I fucking LOVE Bruce Springsteen. But that album is shit.

guess i'm in the minority here, as i love the new record
it's like a pop symphony sequel to Tunnel Of Love
takes a while to grow on you, but it's worth sticking with

It's not really even that good. It's sort of like if Bruce was trying to be like Bruce. It just feels forced.

I wasn't sure the first time I listened to it, but I'm finding that it's growing on me each time through. The lyrics are solid, not as poetic as his best writing, but definitely strong. I have the same problem withthis one I did with magic - it doesn't sound loose or open. I hear each song and I can imagine how great they'll sound live, but on disc they sound confined. When I first heard "Jungleland," I couldn't imagine how anyone could hope to come close to that majesty in concert. When I actually heard it live I was blown away. Now with this album I listen to "Surprise Surprise" and find myself wishing I was listening to a live version instead. I wouldn't say it's a bad album, just not up to (admittedly incredibly high) expectations.

haven't got it yet... BUT my letter defending Bruce got printed in the Lefstez Letter! woo:
Hey Bob, I'm 23 years old. I got my first Internet- enabled computer when I was 13. I got my first kiss through somebody I mostly met through the 'web. Half my Springsteen, Dylan, whatever songs are pirated. I love Bruce. I don't care about 'selling out'. If he's not betraying his principles who cares? Young artists need the exposure TV ads and video game placements give.
Springsteen doing the Wal-Mart thing is a bit tacky but who cares? I make up my mind based on the music and based on the other fans on the web. The Superbowl was fun. I'm in Australia, so I just turned it on long enough to watch the show. It was good, it was fun, and he looked fun. Nobody expects a kickass club rock and roll show in a sports arena. All you need to do is don't embarrass yourself and he didn't. I should also mention that he's still relevant. Two of my favorite 'new' bands - The Gaslight Anthem and The Hold Steady - are obviously influenced by Springsteen and it hasn't hurt their sales or their critical acclaim. This is getting long but I just want to weigh in By the way my mom was born in Freehold. Before I left the States I asked to be driven to Bruce's hometown. I was surprised when I didn't see a statue
