Okay so I decided to make a post about songs or subjects you'd like to see/hear The Hold Steady do/tackle.
Personally I'd love to hear them cover/ do their own take on The Civil Wars "Poison & Wine." I know it's kinda and pop but I think it could be rocked out in a way that the dig would come from a more real and less ballady place, maybe with some sarcastic asides thrown in there.
What would you like to hear them cover?

"Young Turks" by Rod Stewart (when he was young... )
The original is heavy w/ dated 80's synth lines, and needs a musical update.
But I think the lyrics/story fit in with the general THS aesthetic.

Springsteen's "It's Hard to be a Saint in the City".
"Brand New Cadillac". I know it as Clash song, but I think they covered it and I'm too lazy to look up who's song it is originally.

"Does this bus stop at 82nd street?"
Actually anything off Bruce's first two albums could be fun.
Craig could do Neil Young's "On the Beach".
Oh yeah, he already did.

Funny you guys keep bringing up stuff off of Bruce's first two. I was just thinking the other day how great a cover of "Incident on 57th Street" would be (to the tune of One For The Cutters).

Also while we're on the subject, what are everyone's favorite THS covers? I'd say "Hey Hey What Can I Do", "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Windo" and "American Music" are my favorites. "Dance Music" is amazing too.

I'd love to hear them do Perfect Day by Lou Reed.

I wasn't being mean about the "On the Beach" / "Apollo Bay" similarities - it's a pretty common blues riff, ande I love both songs!
Perfect Day would be nice.

i didnt think you were being mean! it's just a very accurate observation. when i saw craig play in march, the last song to play over the PA before he took the stage was "on the beach". there's no way that was a coincidence.

Just to boost the Steadhead agenda, Grateful Dead's wharf rat or jack straw i think would work pretty well for the boys.

I've always thought Craig might do a mean Johnny Cash. I literally dreamt once (sleeping, not daydream) of seeing THS do "A Girl Named Sue": "the mud and the blood and the beer" - heck, sounds like Johnny stole that from THS!

I was about to say that the similarity has to be on purpose, as some kind of tribute or something.
