I have had a bad day at work and my boiler is not working, again. That normally wouldn't matter in September, but it's pretty cold for September.

Got in a fantasy hockey league(Broad St. in yahoo) that drafts friday. we only have 8 out of the ten teams so it may get postponed. I dunno, dudes may be looking for a team thats established and sign on. anyfuckinway, I wanted a team name that was different than the dragon variations i use with my other two teams. not thrilled with Treadstoned that i chose. these guys come up with some doozies like mother puss bucket, but i prefer the 'chance of death' names that may have them shitting their shorts.

Not only didn't we get tickets for NYE or the birthday bash, but somehow the whole fucking fiasco has resulted in a huge fight.

Yet again you are totally and utterly missing the point. It's not about being right, rules, tradition, back in the day etc etc etc It's about someone trying to do a decent thing. Which Nowah was last time and Howard is doing now. It's the UNIFIED Scene FFS. Let it go, for goodness sake...

This board is not fun any more. Well, this is the bullshit thread, John. Maybe a reading of the manifesto is in order? If nothing else, "negative Nancys" should at least read the header at the top of the page, eh? I'm not on here nearly as much as I used to be, but I usually find something positive on one thread or another when I do stop by. Keeping the Faith.

I went to Pete's steakhouse where a group of Cleveland Browns fans were hanging at the bar to watch Thursday night football. Imagine that! Browns fans in central Jersey. Hooper said thats where he'd be with my fifty dollar quarter. none of that mattered once i got inside and saw Stacy who is waitress extraordinaire. We tend to notice each other. she was out of the kitchen with a platter full of plates and then back through the swinging doors to place another order. I left the dog pound and anticipated her exit. she came out and said ''hey you'', placed her arms around me and we hugged a deep chest smashing hug. thats a great feeling to have a woman's breasts against yours. we detached but kept our palms clutching each others elbows as if we planned it like a dance move. I told her that I haven't seen her in her mini cooper scooting around town and she said ''well I'm always here!"" she asked if i'd be going to the Ivy tavern to see the Dawgs saturday night. the fact that we both have significant others seems highly unlikely that we'll ever have more than a full body hug, but the fact that we fit like a glove tends to lead to some kind of penetration.

Spoiler alert: I'm going to be grumpy.
So I just stopped by to see reviews of the TO stand and check on old faces/fonts to see who went, who puked, etc. And then I wandered into the Rank Teeth Dreams thread. :/
Now, if I went onto The Shakespeare Forum, I would hope no one would disagree with any dismay I might express with respect to a thread entitled, "Poll: Who's Way More Hotttter: Beatrice or Viola?"
Why the fuck are "albums" being ranked? Sorting the songs by release date seems like the worst way to look at the catalogue. Who has time to listen through a whole album anyway, and if you do, do you also listen to the b-sides that came out contemporaneously? If so, in what order? What about songs that were baked in one session but released from another? What about alternate takes or live versions?
If you've read Oliver Twist as a novel, you have already overcome the happenstance of an artistic distribution machine that required a work to be disseminated in salable packages of periodic installments. (Now, if I were as manic as I once was, I'd find a Dickens messageboard and start a thread "Poll: What's the friggin' baddest chapter in Bleak House?" Alas, I am old.) Unlike many oher bands, THS started with a defined sound and a well-thought out series of ideas, so you can't really look for the kind of sonic and lyrical progression by album that defines some bands' maturation from teenage lust. THS seems to have started right in at "Document." So FFS do something more than play into a Rolling Stone fetish that started when people actually bought music in a medium in which shuffling and re-sorting songs was damn-near impossible. You can sort by subject matter -- almost everything on Teeth Dreams centers on "deception." But there is some "nostalgia," some "struggle." Almost no set of songs from a particular session center on one thought, save maybe the "defiling and then redemption" songs of Separation Sunday. IMHO, the defiling songs are the best, 'cos Craig is at his nastiest, and Tad at his crunchiest. Sort alphabetically, sort by traditional place in a live setlist (the Openers!, the Closers!), sort by instrumentation, sort by Craig's vocal styling -- the Rant, the Slur, the Shame, the Spitting. Anything is more informative than "by album."
Or, to beat a dead horse, sort by narrative/sonic time. From the very start, I think the whole thing was intended to revolve around musical decades. See Album 1, Song 1.
A digression. As has been noted, in The Grand Narrative, Holly is born in late summer 1977 into the songs everyone finally sings along (the Birth, "I guess that's where it started"), loses everything she's invested by the early '90s at 17 (the Fall), stumbles, at 33, into an Easter mass in '10 (the Resurrection). Classical Structure! Almost all songs fit into one of three time zones, usually with the lyrics fitting the music. So, if Tad writes a riff that sounds pretty close to the theme from Friends, the lyrics for "Runners' High" tend to fit the time (early 90s), with a whole bunch of Holly story references from the Fall. The Wait Awhile riff is pure 70's Cheap Trick, so we get dropped "little girl" lines and lyrics that tend fit the Woodersonic advice genre so popular in the 70s. Sometimes the references are overt to movies and songs in a given year. "Spectres," "Rainbow," "Slapped Actress," "One for the Cutters" are all 1977 direct pop references. Blah Blah blah. I rant, thee ignore.
Here's one I just noticed the other day while running. "Big Cig" is another pure hard rock riff, and the lyrics are all Holly, cross-referencing to among other songs "Sketchy Metal."
So, quick, name one top 40 hard rock song with a lyric about smokin'.
(No, not the 1976 gem b-side to "More Than a Feeling")
Have it?
Now, unless you are a Motley Crue savant, google when that cover was released. Stay with me ... if she were born in late summer '77, (1) how old was Holly in the June when that song was released and (2) when does the song say she was inspired to start smoking?
Anyway, for me the best songs either nail a particular time in the 90s, Multitude/Stevie/Stuck, or try to span the whole four decades, "Oaks" is pretty damn good that way.
Rant over.
And Beatrice. By a fucking mile.
