Cloud Nothings and Japandroids coming down for The St Jerome's Laneway festival but I will be in Japan!! Damn it... Japandroids aren't doing a sideshows, which means it'll be the same situation as when THS played last time: one hour of rock and hours of wankers. look at this lineup: www.liveguide.com.au/Tours/773077/St_Jeromes_Laneway_Festival_2013who the fuck are these bands? Alt-J? Of Monsters and Men, some fucking Icelandic folk group? indie dance shit The Rubens? kings of boring Convenience? a bunch of snobs and wankers and sniffling indie kids for one hour of proper music. sorry this is really making me melt down

Yeah, it's rather crap but still would have gone for the one hour of rock. I usually mangae to wangle freebies to these sorts of things so I wouldn't have minded.
I will be seeing some Japanese punk when in Tokyo...

On a plane flying back home from Houston to Florence, I was sitting with a friend I've known for many years, talking about church and a whole lot of political things. Being a US Congressman, Louie visits a lot of different churches in the area throughout the year and he told me of what happened in a local church on this past Easter that made me roll with laughter, to the point of tears.
The pastor of this Baptist church had called all of the little children to the front of the church, dressed in their cute Easter outfits and had them sit around him.
He said "Today is Easter and you all look so handsome and beautiful. Today we're going to talk about the resurrection. Does anyone know what the resurrection is?"
One little boy raised his hand, and the pastor said "Please tell us what the resurrection is".
The boy, proud that he knew the answer, said in a clear loud voice "When you get one lasting more than four hours, you gotta call a doctor or ... The Hold Steady."

We had to say good-bye to our cat Sterling on Saturday, 17 years old, 14 of them with us. Sterling looked just like Whiskey Daisy's Armando, and like Armando she was strong and smart. Not playful, though. Sterling was a solemn cat. She came by that the hard way: abandoned as a kitten, adopted from a shelter, always wary. When someone came to the house, let's say the plumber, Sterling heard the car door close out on the street and ran upstairs to hide under the bed. Sterling was even wary with us, and would not let us pet her if we were standing over her. But if we were sitting she liked to be petted firmly and purred louder and louder with every stroke until she had what we called a "catgasm." If we were watching TV she loved to squeeze in between one of us and the arm of the sofa. And in later years, on cold nights, she loved to crawl under the comforter and curl up to sleep in the crook of my arm. Sterling started to fall ill last winter. The vet ruled out a lot of things but never really came up with a diagnosis, and since each trip to the vet was traumatic for Sterling we just let her be for several months, despite diarrhea and difficulty keeping food down. Sterling used to vacuum up her food and we had to chase her away from Bella's food dish so Bella would get a good meal. She had food issues. But that faded away, and this fall I realized I could pick her up with one hand by the scruff of the neck. The vet treated her for hyperthyroidism then, and gave her a steroid for potential inflammation. We started to give her a pro-biotic gel, and took all the wheat gluten out of her diet. This gave her a couple weeks with firmer BMs and maybe a little more comfort. But she kept losing weight. Last week she started to lose strength, and couldn't jump up into bed any more. Then her legs started to give out under her. By Saturday she refused food and could only drag herself along the floor by her front paws. Her body was just giving out and we had to admit it was more merciful to say good-bye while we could hold her as she passed. I miss her so much. I miss her begging food from us at the dinner table. She would stand up by your chair and tap your elbow with her paw. Then she stood there patiently and looked at you. The last time she did this was Thanksgiving and she got some roast turkey for her pains. She Who Must Be Obeyed took this last picture of Sterling two days before the end. I cry every time I see it, and I think I always will.

Oh, jtd7. I am heartbroken reading your post. Sterling was a cat among cats. She was loved and happy, and certainly had a wonderful life. Sending lots of love from our home to yours.
XOXO WD

Thank you so much, stringer. The sympathy I've been given by the Unified Scene is such a comfort to me. I am so sorry for your loss. It's especially hard to bear around holidays, isn't it.

Started seeing a therapist to help with anger problems. She's speculating that I have dysthimia, have had it for a decade plus (since first grade), and that I've had a recent major depressive episode. I don't know if I'm taking it well or pretending to take it well, but either by will or coincidence, I've hardly been sober since she proposed the idea.

Sorry jtd7, I only just saw your reply. Yeah, it sucks round the holidays. When I broke for Christmas from uni and I was going through a particularly bad time, I just remember she was there for me. So even now, I completely understand what you're going through.

Clive Burr, best known for drumming in Iron Maiden between 79 and 82 passed away today of Multiple Sclerosis. This sucks. Tonight I'm gonna have a beer and blast 'Run To The Hills'.
