Atlanta show was great. Very impressed with Craig's backup outfit. Sound was good and Bad Earl was a gem of a venue! Would not mind seeing future shows there! Felt good to reconnect with friends!!

what a perfect night. Its so good to be able to see someone that good in such an intimate venue. How great was that when he was telling stories and how quiet the place got. What kills me is the songs that DIDNT make the album are as good as anything on the album. Great show. I saw him walking down N6 before the show and he was in a good mood, talkative and thanked me for coming out to the show.

Agreed, in the middle of a rock n roll joint, you could hear a pin drop for how quiet the audience became once Craig told a story between songs! It was a bit surreal. I kept looking back at the audience thinking, "this can't be happening" it was like one of those old time AT&T commercials. Crazy! But awesome!!
I met the guy who did the flyer. Cool person. Flyer was beautiful.

yeah, that was weird and i think it annoyed him and the band. i saw the pedal steel player glare back at least once. it's a shame, the stuff he played solo sounded SO good. especially "jeremiah's blues." that last verse was crushing.
i had to split right as the band came back on. what songs did i miss? glad i got to hear most of the LP, some guns, and sarah. the explanation he gave before sarah made the song make so much more sense.
also, i loved that they walked on during revolution blues. i'm so convinced that this record is craig's on the beach

Yeah, Jeremiah's Blues was stunning. And the crowd talking all through it made me ashamed to be in Philly. It was even worse after the band came back: two girls right up front were yapping so loud you could hear them over the amplified band! Here's what I got for the set-list: Apollo Bay (Once You Roll Over?) Balcony Jackson No Future When No One's Watching Some Guns Western Pier New Friend Jesus Sara I'm Surrounded -- Craig solo (plus pedal steel on Jeremiah) Jeremiah's Blues Going To A Show Those Dudes From St Paul -- Some Guns return Honolulu Blues Rented Room Terrified Eyes Not Much Left of Us Going to a Show elicited a shouted request for Nassau Coliseum. Craig has hired Justin Bieber as a roadie.

CF has a new tune that I'm not sure he's played much yet, but just may be the best song he's done lyrically. A sparse tune about two best friends, one goes to war and one gets hooked on oxys. It wouldn't be out of place on Nebraska.
Hopefully he plays it more in the UK. Look for it during the solo set.

Nice tune, definitely very Nebraska.
Anyone here going to be at the Birmingham gig (CF supporting Felice Brothers) Wednesday night?
I'm working in the East Midlands tomorrow, staying over near Coventry, then at bit of loose end til gigtime (due to work Wednesday daytime getting cancelled).
I know Stringer's coming up on the train, so me and him will be about late pm / tea time.
If any Scenesters are meeting up, we'll come and say hello.

A haunting song. Swear I had tears in my eyes when he played it at MHOW. Reminds me whole lot of Highway Patrolman off Nebraska. I was fucking amazed at how good the stuff he DIDNT release sounded. He has another whole album in him real soon. And wahst neat is that its not THS stuff...its CF stuff. I could never see THS doing 'Dennis and Billy". Not sure of the first line:
Denis and Billy
Dennis and Billy from up at Champlain Their friendships forever since first day of first grade. Played football together won some pretty big games. Dennis and Billy from up at Champlain
After graduation Dennis enlisted. Billy was taken by a bit of surprise. Dennis said it didn't seem like there was any other answer. Didn't want to be stuck in this town his whole life.
The night before he left they got drunk and really high. Billy asked Dennis if he's scared he's gonna die. Dennis said everybody dies at some time. Neither of them said a thing for a while.
Billy stayed home and took on a trade. He went for the handle, he got bit by the blade. There were hospital bills, there was pain, there was pills. The pain went away but the pills they just stayed.
Pills from prescriptions, pills from the street Cigarette burns from falling asleep That one perfect calm, that sweet fleeting feeling Don't last very long but it runs pretty deep.
The wave washed over, felt warm like the sunshine Billy's head filled up with bright shining lights. And just for a moment he wasn't anxious or nervous. Dennis was somewhere still stuck in the service
Dennis wasn't much for sendin off letters. Billy wasn't either so they weren't much in touch. Dennis came home to see his sick mother Billy's on the corner like he's waitin on a bus.
Dennis parked the car, they went into a bar Billy said "Dennis, man you're lucky you left" Dennis started saying something but then he reconsidered. he looked down at his beer and he slowly shook his head and he said
I been out there fighting, you been hangin around here dying It might be ironic but it's not a good joke. These Vic's and OxyContin, this whole town is stuck on somethin That's pretty much why I hate coming home.
the night before he left he watched billy gettin high Dennis asked Billy if he's scared he's gonna die. Billy said "Everybody dies at some time" Neither of them said a thing for a while.

Thank you for posting the video and lyrics to "Dennis and Billy." The line "it might be ironic but it's not a good joke" made my heart hurt.

Very much a rehearsal show last night at a tiny pub in London for both Some Guns and The Felice Brothers but still a thrill to be there. A 9 song set all from the album, Terrified Eyes & Not Much Left of Us were missing. Western Pier & Rented Room real highlights especially the latter when the band takes off
P.S. always a pleasure to see Maniche and get well soon James

Great show last night, Some Guns are a fantastic band really bring the songs to life and CF looks like he is having a great time. Standouts for me were Rented Room and Western Pier, while New Friend Jesus is becoming very popular indeed!
setlist in no particular order (feel free to add if I've missed something):
Apollo Bay Rented Room Balcony Western Pier Terrified Eyes Jackson Not Much Left of Us New Friend Jesus Honolulu Blues
Think that was it.
Really enjoyed the Felice Bros as well

Only reading this morning - sorry Matt - Stringer and I were probably a only couple of feet away from you, to the right of centre front row! I feel almost ignorant now! Stringer was the tallish lanky young fella with glasses, I was the stocky balding fella in a VB T shirt!
I agree it was a great show; even better than I had expected. The songs rocked a bit more than listening to CHFE might suggest, and Some Guns were great live. The guitarist and pedal steel player really are superb, it was a bit weird to see CF on stage with a different band though!
Would have loved to hear some of the "off album" tracks, and I know Stringer missed getting to hear "When no-one's watching". I was delighted that my two favourites "Jackson" and "Not much left of us" got a play - both of which I think are as good lyrically as anything Craig has ever done.
The only disappointment was that Craig (as support) was obviously restricted by a tight time-slot, so there were no stories between songs, little talking and no encores. I just would have loved to hear more! It was also quite funny to hear CF come on and get quite a bigger cheer than the band he was supporting!
Wasn't hugely keen on The Felice Brothers - (very good musically, quite dynamic live, but vocally a bit too close to Dylan for my liking) - but then again, they were always going to be an anti-climax if you've come to see CF. We had a long journey back to Swansea, so Stringer and I headed off early.
Can't wait to see either more CF shows, or the next THS shows (whenever they might be!). A bit gutted I can't make the London / Brighton shows where CF is "headlining".
