Am in airport headed for Atlanta! I'm coming to the show by myself -- will be in Atlanta for business but I arranged the whole trip around this show. Very excited, and would love to meet up with anyone; is there a particular bar nearby that people will be congregating at beforehand?

Dudes! Awesome show last night. The boys tore Athens apart. Took two of my friends to their first show; they got converted. I'll be at the Yacht club tonight, sitting at the bar in a t-shirt that says "The Mid West". Let's get incredible.

If anyone has an extra ticket, I have a friend who didn't secure one beforehand and I think it may be sold out... it is online anyway.
She can pay you cash at the venue. Call 256-603-1987.

I'm in atl now and flying solo. I'll be heading to L5P soon. Anyone eating dinner anywhere before the show? Vortex would be good.

We're about to start getting ready for tonight's show. It will be my and my fiancee's first THS show. We're totally stoked. Me a bit more so than she, but still. A good friend of mine is going with us as well.
And we may have an extra ticket if my friend's friend doesn't take his other ticket. Email me if interested (goes to my crackberry) at hiwatt357 (at) gmail dot com. Said ticket would be face value.

Such an awesome show! I went last night with my brother and sister, and at the last minute, a girl (who I swear is somewhat of an embodiment of Holly) decided to join... She had heard of the band before (through me) and kind of had an idea of what to expect. She had never been to a concert before and decided to join us... I think it was the line "Its a long haul to the corner store..." in "Sweet Part of the City" that she was convinced/converted! The whole night was just awesome, and I can honestly say it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to! Thanks so much to The Hold Steady (and to the Twin Tigers!) for an awesome night of Rock 'N Roll. I told this girl that this band is my version of religion, and after the show, I think she understood what I meant!

Saw both shows. The Athens show was sweet. It was the first time I had been to that city. They closed with Resurrection. Amazing. I really wanted to hear Hot Soft Light and Cattle and the Creeping things and they played them both in Atlanta.
After the show Tad came out back and talked with a few of us. He told me my Dillinger Four shirt was cool. Ha. I had the best rock n' roll weekend!

Saw Brooks and a couple other people who recognized my shirt at the Atlanta show. Also a legendarily drunk Harvard PhD. Hope everyone had a good time. Athens got Resurrection, but Atlanta got DJs, Hot Soft Light, and Cattle.
For my money, the Atlanta set list was a bit better, but the Athens crowd was just the perfect amount of rowdy. Does anyone have setlists for the shows yet? I'd love to send them along to some friends who are seeing them later on the tour.

I was a bit too into it to keep track of the setlist. I had tix for Athens but couldn't make it, so settled for Atlanta. I thought the crowd was a bit tame, compared to a lot of other THS shows. But the sound was great. I was right near Tad and watched him a lot. That man is a hard worker. Hardly EVER looks up at the audience. Probably tired of seeing fat older dudes. A few times, though, he mouthed the word "Fuck" (in an admiring way) after watching Steve Selvidge take a turn on a solo. It was pretty cool to see this new line-up play together. I wouldn't have minded a few more keyboards here and there -- they were way turned down, it seemed. An awesome show, though. Craig said it continues to be the best job he's ever had. We should all be so lucky.

If anyone was out back talking to craig, I apologize for being so far gone. Dont know how i got that way lol. Did Anyone else meet me? I was in a light blue striped polo and brown shorts and a shaggy hair. Craig is awesome. pity he had a 5am wake up call. This was my first THS show. Ive wanted to see them in the worst way. When I met Craig, all I could say was "thank you" probably said it over and over. did i mention I was wasted? Got to be honest though, I'm really disappointed in the Atlanta crowd on the whole. Atlanta seemed tired last night. I think you get what you give especially with a band like THS. Craig didnt talk at all really, and he never told us we were the hold steady. Its funny, I act like I missed out of some kind of anointing. Been to a lot of punk shows, we've all heard "shut up and play!!!!" Couldnt help thinking the opposite. I guess the twelve step program worked A friend who was with me said that the guy up in front right near Tad had the energy of 1000 fans LMFAO! Cheers to you my jumping friend! Did anyone else up front think that craigs vocals were drowned out??? Wait a second, I'm complaining!?!?!? The show was f'ing amazing. They brought the rock! Got a set-list, got it signed and also got craig's pick!!! Set-List: sweet part constructive hot soft rock problems magazines goin on a hike barfruit chips ahoy stations cattle stiveie nix gotta dance sequestered hurricane j the shish weekenders sweet payne dj's massive nights slapped actress I cant remember the encore sadly... Anyone? Attachments:

Situations = Stuck Between Stations.
The encore was We Can Get Together Your Little Hoodrat Friend Southtown Girls Stay Positive
It was a great show. I thought his voice was a little drowned but not to thje point where it was an issue.

Both were great shows. Patterson Hood (from DBT) sang on Navy Sheets at the Athens show.
The Atlanta crowd was a lot better than the Athens show, both in terms of size and excitement.
I really enjoyed the ATL setlist - there was a definite focus on Almost Killed Me that was cool. I was fairly close to the front row in front of Steve, and I thought that the last song on the stage setlist was Killer Parties. Can anyone confirm?
I also got to meet Craig when I showed up at the ATL show. I parked in one of the lots close to the Variety, and he was wandering around the lot talking on his cell. I didn't want to interrupt him, and I didn't want to look like a creepy stalker, so I called my girlfriend and told her she had to help me look busy until CF got off the phone.
Also great to meet folks at the Yacht club before the show. Hope to catch another one soon!

The Atlanta crowd was a lot better than the Athens show, both in terms of size and excitement. Oh man, I have to respectfully disagree. The Atlanta crowd was bigger, of course, because Variety is bigger than 40 Watt, but the crowd was lame. People in the rows closest to the stage were for the most part standing still or barely moving. It wasn't until Massive Nights that the crowd picked up, and even then it was just in pockets. In Athens I was soaked in beer and whiskey and other people's sweat by halfway through the main set, and everyone within 15 feet of the stage was jumping and dancing.

Hey! were you 496? Good time last night for sure. If anyone was out back talking to craig, I apologize for being so far gone. Dont know how i got that way lol. That was me! Good to meet you. You were "far gone" enough that you didn't realize the encore was the encore , but as far as I could tell you were in control and having fun! That's ideal in my book. Agreed on the crowd. Though Craig doesn't talk too much anyway, folks seemed lackluster in general. I felt like he was begging us to get our hands up and start moving. It also looked like people weren't familiar with a lot of the call-and-response and hand gestures that he uses, which might mean new fans or first-time attendees, which is awesome. I'll trade some intensity for new fans. But yeah, in the end it's The Hold Steady, and they're going to rock no matter the crowd.

I'm usually complaining about crowds for being too rowdy and moshing on me during inappropriate moments.
I wish that happened last night. I felt like I saw a show at a library.

[/quote] Yeah, I held it together just long enough to meet Craig, then it got pretty ugly lol! Couldnt even walk trying to get to the brewhouse then puked all over the brewhouse bathroom, scared some lady's dog in the street, basically was carried to my car, and rode home puking all over myself. Ever been that kind of drunk that you dont give a shit that you're just throwing up all over yourself? Like dont even bother moving. The hold steady almost killed me lol! (very unoriginal joke i admit)

A friend who was with me said that the guy up in front right near Tad had the energy of 1000 fans LMFAO! Cheers to you my jumping friend! Pleasure to meet you! ;D I really had a blast... I depend on these rock and roll shows for so much, and there was no way I was going to let this band get away without knowing this town loves them. The girl mentioned above really inspires me, and last night was no exception! (She was dancing more than I was, to be honest...) Right now, my lungs hurt, my left ear hurts (the girl's fault) and my throat's sore... Also, during "Little Hoodrat Friend" I fist-pumped right into the on-stage soundboard... Those things are heavy, dude. Really heavy... My right hand hurts. Haha!

Two great shows, two epic nights, two hangovers that still won't let go of me. Buddymo and Harvard, awesome to meet you two dudes before the show.
Didn't really get a good feel for the crowd cause I was in front in front of Steve with Buddymo, everyone around us seemed to be having a blast though. I did notice, however, that a lot of people didn't seem to know the AKM songs, which were a real pleasure to hear, and some people were really obsessed with personal space, which is pretty weird considering you are crammed into a room with hundreds of other people.....people touching people that they dont even know, yo. Everyone should drink more before the shows, it makes for a better overall experience. ie: you dont give a shit if the person in front of you accidently steps on your foot, or the drunk couple next to you are leaning on you while they are making out. I think it's silly to be bothered by such trifles.
I had a fucking blast last night.

charlemagne420: You might have me in mind when you mention people irritated by the drunk couple leaning against you making out. I was right in front of Steve too--the short guy in the green Comas t-shirt (are you the blond guy who looks like Mark Ibold from Pavement?). I've been going to shows for 20+ years and have never been so bothered by other concert goers as I was by the drunk couple making out and leaning against people who clearly didn't want them leaning against them. I especially felt bad for a young girl at the very front, who told me beforehand it was her first THS show, and who was constantly bedeviled by the young couple who didn't care that they were the only people in our area who wanted to be "people touching people." I tried to tolerate them as best I could until the female half of the careless couple, swinging herself around madly, managed to headbutt me the likes of which I've never been headbutted before. "It was OK in the end" and all, but here's how I recorded the events upon my return home: Dear 21-year-old blonde, drunk and cocaine-addled girls with braces of the world: please do not stand right behind me at the Hold Steady show with your equally drunk and cocaine-addled white-belted, skinny-jeaned, 5”4’ tall boyfriend and ruin the first 2/3rds of my evening by dancing so carelessly that you are constantly elbowing me in the back and kicking me in the shins, until I have to grab you and shout “COOL IT. YOU NEED TO CHILL OUT!!” and then about ten minutes later, still dancing, bash your head into the back of my head, causing me tremendous pain, such that I grab your boyfriend and shout at him “YOU NEED TO REIN IN YOUR GIRLFRIEND NOW! SHE JUST BASHED ME IN THE SKULL AND I’M PISSED OFF ABOUT IT!!”, at which point you control yourself for about 15 minutes but then eventually try to pick my back pocket as a way of making fun of me, the old grumpy guy at the front of the stage at the Hold Steady show who doesn’t want anybody to touch him (what a loser), after which I shoot you yet another murderous look, and then about five minutes after that, during “Hurricane J”, you reach around from behind me and put your drugstore sunglasses on top of my head, as yet another way of making fun of me, at which point I decide to just embrace the annoyance and absurdity of the whole thing and put the sunglasses on my face for the remainder of the song, to which I am pogoing and singing along at top volume, after which I put them back on your face and say to you, kindly, gently even, “You’re silly!”, only a few minutes after which your coked-out boyfriend (no offense to coked-out people intended) and I are next to each other singing together blissfully along to “Massive Nights” as if we were best friends while you are grabbing my ass, and then you and he move back into the crowd so that you are neither in my peripheral vision nor in my thoughts for the last third of the evening, which I enjoyed a lot more, but then made a point of finding you on the way out to say, in a really friendly way, actually, “Wow, you guys were annoying. I’ve only yelled at people like that maybe twice before in my entire life, and I’m old,” after which you smile and say, in the manner of Chrissy from “Three’s Company,” “We were making fun of you!” and your boyfriend gives me a bro-hug, and I say “You guys be careful on the way home” and then you both say “Bye! Have a good night!”, because we’ve somehow established some friendly bar-band détente, after which I make my way of out of the Variety Playhouse, making sure to recycle my two cans of Bud Light and one can of Miller Lite on the way out the door. Thank you.
