i'm just as excited to read peter buck's liner notes as i am to hear those demos his notes are half the reason i buy every REM compilation

i remember buying this in Freebird Records in Dublin back in 85. a couple of weeks later they supported u2 in croke park . i didnt think they would go on to become big stars.

This is my fave REM record. I'm so pleased it's getting an overhaul as the CD mastering has never lived up to the Vinyl pressing I've had since the dawn of time. I fell in love with something called College Rock when I first heard this. It was a life time before I heard anything else to put it into context. I was late to The Mats, Pixies, Husker Du, Soul Asylum but REM were all mine for a little while if you know what I mean.

i remember buying this in Freebird Records in Dublin back in 85. a couple of weeks later they supported u2 in croke park . i didnt think they would go on to become big stars. it is pretty weird that they got so huge. especially considering what songs were hits. losing my religion is mostly mandolin and doesnt really have a chorus. drive is really droney and repetitive and depressing. they're such an odd band, and i love that they just kept doing whatever the hell they felt like, even after becoming international megastars. like releasing a 39-song live album with only one hit on it
