i mostly love how he can do ANYTHING really well. great acoustic folk songs, surreal rock n roll, apocalyptic epics, pop country, folk rock, and however you'd classify his last few albums this last two albums... Americana, maybe? there's an interview where Craig talks about how Tangled Up In Blue inspired the twisty, multiple-narrator styles of THS songs honestly THS alerted me that there were still modern lyricists with that sort of skill. Craig Finn and John Darnielle are around 80% as good as Dylan, which is amazing

blood on the tracks is my favorite dylan record its got so many strange characters that just get mentioned in passing. it's sort of literary, but delivered with such a personal edge. that's in my top 5 records of all time

or his earlier earlier band, the Boys Next Door he's Australia's greatest hero. screw you, Jessica Watson. and Ned Kelly I'll check him out. I found The Birthday Party working backwards from the Pixies, to Steve Albini/Big Black, and so forth. What do they sounds like?

Boys Next Door are snooty garage punk... you can find them on some compilations, like Lethal Weapons Nick Cave is massive... can't really do justice to him in a short post. Boatman's Call or Murder Ballads are both decent places to start

Craig is a BIG reason why i got into Jonathan Richman, The Mountain Goats, Art Brut, the Replacements (one of my favorite bands now), and even Springsteen.

there's a bunch of Unified Scene bands that all hang out together, tour together, etc... the Loved Ones press release i got made a big deal of Franz playing on their album, even though he's done stuff for heaps of bands
so guys like Frank Turner, Loved Ones, Gaslight Anthem, DBTs (maybe), Tim Berry (maybe), Titus Andronicus and a few others... not sure who else. i fee like i should see The Loved Ones 'cause they've hung with Gaslight and THS. kinda weird reason to see a band i guess
oh and i plug him in every single thread but fuck it... if you like THS, you'll like Perry Keyes. he writes THS style songs about Sydney. he's amazing

Funny, I tried 2 times to get into The Loved Ones and gave up both times. Even saw them live and wasn't blown away. Couple weeks ago I threw on Build & Burn and it clicked; now I can't get enough. Maybe I was listening to their first album when I didn't like it, but Build & Burn is really good.

'Hammerin Nails' is a great song but it sounds more like Old Crow Medicine Show then punk

You don't know anything about Strung Out? Funny, I thought they were kind of big in Australia. They are a solid punk band, a bit harder than most. They don't stray from their formula all that much though. I've heard their latest album is their best in awhile but I haven't given it a listen. They were my jam back in the day though.
