The entire first night. The stranger's couch in Harrisburg. Vegas. 69 Nassau in Toronto. Jameson in Montreal. Kindness and generosity in NYC. The first meet-up in Birmingham. The sea of traffic parting for me, Hank, Greenhat and Cake in Ybor. Hospitality of #1 in Milwaukee. Baltimore = Letterman. Juice boxes in Chicago. Glitter in Pontiac. Mittens and Canadian whiskey.

One of the absolute best night's of rock and roll I've ever had the pleasure of (and thanks to fellow US'ers). Never thought I'd see DBT outplayed in a live setting, but then it happened. Pretty sure I can make out the back of my head and my meaty arms raised up in the air clapping along. Sad to say, but I had forgotten about the Gorilla showing up!

Overall experiences. 1. October 26, 2006 - My first show. Galen threw dollars. 2. August 4, 2007 - Lollapalooza 2007. Mind blowing. Check the Live Archive to understand. 3. October 31, 2007 - "A Positive Rage" recording. Dudes dressed as banderos because it was Halloween. Koob manages to keep ammo on for entire show. 4. April 11, 2008 - Milwaukee. McQ asserts his tour managing dominance. (See thread tomorrow.) Met Emily. 5. June 29, 2008 - McCarren Park Pool "Pool Party" show. Huge on every level. Torrential downpour. Sun manages to come out right before THS's set. Matt Jones almost loses a finger. Zapruder footage below: 6. July 19, 2008 - Pitchfork Music Festival. Waited all day. Confetti throw during "Hoodrat". Forgot to close my mouth. Confetti in mouth. 7. July 22, 2008 - First Avenue, Minneapolis. Met CFW 1980. Dudes come on stage to "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince. Crowd crush. Phils_fan effectively saves my life. Venue passes out Flavor-Ices to front row. Steve Barone knocks Craig's glasses off. 8. November 13, 2008 - Bloomington, Indiana. First of four RRMW tour dates for me. Met CT for first time. Convince him that 'the message board is actually pretty cool'. He joins a few weeks later. 9. November 14, 2008 - Rivera Theatre. Meet a girl who carries a Timbuk2 messenger bag into the venue, writes LFTR PLLR on her knuckles in sharpie and throws cigarettes at Craig. I'm in love. We date for little over a year. Also: WD smuggles in juiceboxes and candy bars in the venue, claiming she was diabetic. One more thing: Best encore I've ever seen. 10. March 29 - April 7, 2009 - Seven shows in ten days. Countless miles in a blue sedan, staying in friend's houses and crappy hotels. Rock shows are great, Kim and I go through McDonalds drive through in Albany while a transient waits on foot behind us to order. Urbana gets insane, Craig's monitor goes down and Dusty McGyver's it back together in a shade under ten minutes. Emily's knees are trashed. Heard "Two Handed Handshake" in Bloomington. "Midnight Hauler"#2 at the last show. Kim gets the sinus infection from hell, and it all ends with the most unforgettable "Killer Parties" speech ever in Iowa City. 11. June 8, 2009- First of four nights in NYC. Band comes on stage one at a time starting with Killer Parties. Covered in confetti before the first song is even over. Also: LILHAN IN AMERICA. 12. June 9, 2009 - All of Separation Sunday, out of order. 13. June 10, 2009 -

seeing them for the first time at Laneway after an utterly insane week that changed my life... FOREVER and ended with me grabbing Craig's hand and going utterly insane in The Basement. and then refusing an invite to party with The Gossip 'cause i needed to go to a job interview the next day
seeing them at The Metro, meeting an awesome girl, and spending the rest of the night wandering the city with said awesome girl - dancing to Massive Nights at a club, hanging out in the park, etc. the fact that i'll probably never see her again somehow made it more awesome

-The intro to "Don't let me explode" at our first THS show. It was the Boys and Girls tour. That was one of the times I feel in love with THS. -Jumping on the bed belting "Southtown girls." Our neighbors informing us they think it's funny when we sing and it's so great we're always so happy. -The night at a now closed gay bar on Hennepin avenue which reminded me why I love God, humanity, and myself. "Hey barroom, hey tavern, I find hope in all the souls you gather" was true. -Craig's glasses getting knocked off his face when Steve went to give him a hi five that Craig didn't see coming. -The first time I heard "She got screwed up by religion, she got screwed by soccer players." To me that line always sounded like understanding, not judgment and I will always love THS for it.

I would have to go with my one and only Hold Steady show. April 6, 2009 at Wash U in St. Louis. Looking forward to seeing them again this summmer in Milwaukee and hopefully many more times. Threads like this is why I love the Hold Steady, and made me finally feel like I needed to be a part of the Unified Scene.
