i was just thinking that! we've got a history of weird THS tributes in this town. some DJ wrote an acrostic poem about how awesome they were, and there's a cover of Sequestered in Memphis with all the references replaced by local ones Errrr Sequestered in Redfern??

I just ask here: A lot of you talk about Going On A Hike as if it's on the album. Do we know it is? And if so, what is it called?

Sequestered In Manly by Homemade Plane. there's no link anywhere, and it's not on the band's MySpace: www.myspace.com/homemadeplaneshame, really. i'll see about getting a recording for the Board if you want THS style songs specifically about growing up in Redfern you should check out Perry Keyes! he has a new album out, and it's awesome. sorry for the shameless plug, but he's a great guy, a big THS fan, and an amazing songwriter plugs done!

I thought Redfern woulda fit the HS dynamic a touch more yeah, there's a community radio station filled with sniffling indie kids right in the middle of poverty.... but i do most of my partying and dancing on Oxford Street or in Newtown.... and there are so many old rock and roll types at both those places why Manly? i don't get it... and check out Perry Keyes. trust me. and Capital City, if you're not sick of them

Parts of manly remind me of geraldton in WA (manly is much better though, and granted I only spent a day) and I think the coastal lifestyle generally has a smattering of subversive elements i thought it could work but thought redfern was a way better fit.
Prob more a case of generalisations about coastal towns i spose.

I think this song really takes off starting with the "They didn't name her for a saint...." line until the end. I think the verses are nice as well, but the last minute or so is the best part.

it took me a few listens and i do find all the debating and analyzing of lyrics and chords amusing and informative but this song is fucking genius for anyone who has ever been fucked and dated a waitress, young or old, that's all i got to say about it. I think Ocean City summer 1990 and no one would understand that but me and the girl who married a cop but i think she would love this song and quite possibly smile at the memories it conjures.

The line "and why do you keep going to his car? " gives me that same feeling as " This guy from the north side comes down to visit / His visits, they only take five or six minutes " in "Discouraged".

The line "and why do you keep going to his car? " gives me that same feeling as " This guy from the north side comes down to visit / His visits, they only take five or six minutes " in "Discouraged". I think "And why do you keep going to his car?" refers to: "Sometimes Charlemagne gets uptight...running numbers between bars, running girls between the cars" from Charlemagne in Sweatpants. This likely refers to prostitution/porn which we know Charlemagne is involved with from Certain Songs, Curves and Nerves, and Modesto's Not That Sweet. I have a feeling we'll know more once we hear the whole album, but my guess is Jessie is one of the girls involved with Charlemagne, and may be Holly's cousin ("I should have kicked it with your cousin" ). We can infer that Sapphire is Holly's "hoodrat friend" from other lyrics, but we didn't find out her name until Stay Positive. So Jessie may be the unknown "cousin" referred to a few times on previous albums. "I can't believe I worried about hurting you while you were banging around the bars trying to scratch up something new" from Modesto's Not That Sweet refers to: "But 22 and banging around in restaurants Isn't that much prettier than banging around in bars"

I just saw the live clip from the Ardsley show, and still feel very underwhelmed. I think this might be the weakest album track from the band all time. I don't hate the song, or anything, it's nice enough. But it's far, far from being top notch.

I wasn't thrilled with this song. Too stuck in the '80's, below average lyrics, Craig's voice sounding nearly pleasant- just not for me.
But I was just driving home from my kid's baseball game, the sun was shining, the car was flying, and THIS SONG came on the radio. Shocking.
And it sounded great. Sing-along song, for sure. When followed by Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak (and it was), I liked it. A lot.
It didn't make sense to me listening on a computer in over-critical, "what are they doing?" mode, but in my car flying down the road, I got it.

I really like how the narrator is an anti-Charlemagne. In contrast, the narrator in the SS/Holly story was passive to everything going on. But Hurricane J shows the futility in someone actually stepping in and trying to save the Holly/Jessie type character. Although the narrator tries to undo everything poisoning her, it's inevitable that "Hurricane Jessie's gonna crash into the harbor this summer."
It seems like this is the most disliked out of all the new THS, and what I want to know is why. It's epic and has incredible storytelling lyrics.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but I hadn't seen anything. I just saw a youtube clip from 4/9 which has an additional backup vocalist for Hurricane J: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrjbC6AV9A8Anybody know the deal with this? I was at Toad's and the backing vocals for this song weren't great, so my only thought is maybe they're trying to address that. Looks like it could be the dude from The Oranges Band to me.

Thank god, the backing vocals from the Westscott gig is a lot better than at Toad's. This time it's in tune.
