well, sort of. a minor slipup, at worst, actually. the dates were close held, and not supposed to be announced yet at all. (don't ask me why - at a guess, confirming everything, getting their marketing plan or logistics together, whatever - but having a single announcement date for a tour makes sense).
the good folks managing the tour had taken some notes on tour dates on an old website that they thought wasn't accessible to the public anymore (inland empire touring doesn't exist anymore). they were wrong; fans had bookmarked that page ages ago. so, they took it down.
the shows will be announced, they will go on sale, we will rock. no cause for alarm.

I don't speak for the band- but knowing this situation somewhat intimately, I can say that Hoodrat is dead-on. The promoters of each show weren't supposed to announce their dates until 9AM on Thursday 2/4- but the Inland Empire site sort-of had it's slip showing....which is how that slew of dates got farted out there last week-ish. But - I can say, with authority, that ALL dates WILL be announced by around 9AM tomorrow morning....and I hope to see most of you soon

Since the Syracuse date is about a five minute walk from my house, maybe less, I obviously will be at that one. Weighing whether or not to go to Rochester on Monday. I have class until 5 but can probably skip it...HMM...

Ah, April 3rd is about my favorite venue in the world, and I am already committed to a family reunion on that date elsewhere.

I'm there on the 3rd, 6th, and 7th.
If anyone needs a place to crash for the 6th, I may very well be able to accommodate.

i don't really see the problem. the dates were always supposed to be announced today, they went up on the site today. maybe not before you got out of bed, but still in the AM in america. there's really no point being assy about it. it's not like you missed out on tickets cause you didn't know about the show in time.

It's rock and fucking roll. Who gives a damn about some stupid inconsequential mistake by the bands management? Nobody....except you I guess.

Mike are you in charge of managing the band? I was saying it was a poor way of doing things by their management company. I could really give fuck all, cause if I want a ticket I'll get it one way or another. I am just tired of the way theses things are handled. Slipshod. As someone mentioned before on one site there are two shows the same day in NYC, but its not on the "official' site. If I am being assy, fine. Its not really a complaint against The Hold Steady, but the whole industry who then cry that they arent making any money. Do something right or dont do it at all. as far as i can tell, the only slip-up was putting the dates on the inland empire page without realising that meant the fans would see them before they were supposed to be announced. to me that seems like it's kind of a petty thing to start whining about "incompetence" and "stupid planning". it's totally normal for venues to announce dates before bands do for the obvious reasons already stated by others in this thread - the venues will confirm when the band confirms, but often bands want to announce tours in their entirety rather than having dates trickle in over the course of several weeks. and you can leave out all this "are you in charge of managing the band" shit, really. i'm as entitled to my opinion as you are.

TOUR DATES!!! what he said. and in the past, we've had WAY more complicated ticketing situations and gotten everyone who matters in the door anyway. for like, what, four years now? don't sweat it.

True but it could have happened had tickets gone onsale for shows at Bowery or MHOW which sold out pretty quickly last year. It is nice to the dates all at once before tickets go onsale so one can decide which show or shows to choose. Wayne

i would also like to add that i'm sure other ticketing situations with other bands can be just as convoluted, if not worse, but we pay maybe just a liiiiiiiiiiiiiittle bit more attention to THS, so it gets kinda magnified.

odd that there's nothing south of PA yet, DC is usually a hotspot for THS
