Miss Bettie Page has passed away.Hers is the kind of story that is too sad, strange, and, at times, funny to be any sort of fiction. From secretary to battered wife to seemingly-unaware pinup queen to mental patient to church worker (Bettie once worked with Billy Graham Ministries), one can't help but think that Bettie knew what it was like to ask the question: Lord, what would you recommend to a real sweet girl with some not sweet friends? Lord what would you prescribe to a real soft girl who's having real hard times? And, yet, if you look at those photos, you find yourself most aware of one thing: Bettie Page knew how silly those poses were... and she was having as much fun as anyone. There's a lesson to be learned there... Miss Bettie, thanks for letting us in on the idea that, despite the challenges in anyone's life, it's still possible to give the world a wink and a smile.

Oh so sad. I knew she had been hospitalized recently.
I once asked a hairdresser to cut my hair Bettie Page style. He had no idea what I was talking about.

Bette was my Marilyn. I was so sad last night - but she's free of a burden and she believed she was going somewhere better, so I woke up resolved to be happy for her. Bette told brunettes with imperfect teeth that a good time was more important than an airbrush.

Betty had a good time in those poses. That's why I love the classic pinups. Smiling faces, a shared joke with the viewer, a knowledge that humour didn't detract from sexuality.
