If I had to pick one I'd say "One for the cutters".

I still say navy sheets has a middle 8 as good as anything else in the back catalogue. Best part of the song, definitely. Since Teeth Dreams came out, I've though about how Big Cig is the sound of what Navy Sheets could have been without the silly synth.

Both Crosses. I love every other song they've made, but that one just doesn't hit a note with me

...so I'm the guy who loves Navy Sheets? No, its not just you. I love it but if I had to pick a skipper its Both Crosses. Its a good song I just haven't connected with it yet.

It's a very un-Hold Steady song. The slight touch of C&W isn't that weird, but it's just beyond that. I really like it, but it almost feels like someone else's song. Apart from the lyrics, though. They're pretty THS.

...so I'm the guy who loves Navy Sheets? You're not alone. Hugely underrated imho. And I've said it before but I'll say it at: that middle eight is up there with the best that they've done.

SAPPHIRE FOREVER! Also, I am surprised that Modesto is getting so much hate. I was in California for Thanksgiving and stopped in Modesto just because of the song. The city was not exciting, but being there and listening to the song was glorious.
Here are my most beloved songs, aside from the esteemed Sapphire: Southtown, Party Pit, Weekenders, Multitude, Weekenders, Our Whole Lives I really like relationship narratives, and BAGIA is magical.
Songs that don't do it for me include: Navy Sheets, Jamaica, Magazines
I guess I don't really understand Magazines. Is it supposed to be ironic, like "You Can Make Him Like You?"

The guys in "Magazines" are pretty much the worst. I feel bad for the girl that's the subject of the song.

Same Kooks. I've tried but it's the one song on BAGIA I'm always tempted to skip. No real reason. It just eludes me.

When I saw them at The Terminal 5 they opened with Both Crosses and that was an amazing show started right. Both Crosses will forever be one of my favorites because of this. Now, Navy Sheets is another story.

Not a single song in the THS catalog makes me wanna skip it. Love 'em all. If I have to choose one that I don't like as much, I'll choose Almost Everything. With a heavy heartache.

If I have to choose one that I don't like as much, I'll choose Almost Everything. With a heavy heartache. Oh man. I was at the Abbey Bar 10 Year Anniversary Show, before the album came out. Suitably drunk and swooning with my wife, enjoying our first night out together since our son was born, and still these lines jumped out and hit me hard: "Sat in the back of the theater just drinking and talking / About movies and Krishna and hardcore and Jesus and joy." Those two lines were my 2002, with a lot of friends I don't see anymore. I get choked up every time the song gets there.

Like I said, I chose the song with a heavy heartache, because it's a great song, better than most other things out there.
