the pictures have to be hosted somewhere else (like flickr, facebook, whatever). first, figure out the url for the image itself . on a pc, this can be accomplished by right-clicking the image and selecting "view image" (or something similar; depends on what version you are running). that will take you to the page which holds only that image and nothing else.
then, copy the url, paste it into the reply box. then highlight the url. then, choose the editing button from the list which looks like it has a photo in it (4th button on the 2nd row). click it. this will insert "[image]" tags around the url. click "preview" and then, if it worked, "post reply"

imageshack is a quick way to do it, as is tinypic.
