I dunno man, if you could see this guy- you'd love the fact that he even knew who Arcade Fire was at all. I figured him to be more of an REO Speedwagon, Bangles kind of listener...... And for the record I love Arcade Fire. I think Funeral is one of the best 20 albums of ALL time. Christ I saw Bruce call AF out onto his stage in Ottawa in 2007 to do State Trooper with him, and then they kicked into Keep the Car Running with Bruce and Win trading verses (its on youtube- you can hear me yell "Holy Shit!"). If Bruce thinks they are alright, then I must agree........ www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsukSiGcUngI'm a big Bruce fan, so when I started to get into the Arcade Fire about a year ago I came upon this video and nearly wet myself. I distinctly remember your reaction at the end because that's how I felt after watching the video. I love how the "Holy Shit" guy is on this board It's nice to be amongst people who get as excited about certain music as I do.

Indeed. Just yesterday I got into it with a woman at the kiddie's bus stop questioning my rock creds. Books and covers. Love it. How did that go down? Ah, it's boring without the swooping hand gestures and vocal inflections - but it started by her finding out I'd been to see Dinosaur Jr. I mentioned the pit had been a bit rough, she said I'd no business in a pit at my age, much less as a female, I told her to get stuffed, we were in more danger on the street corner than I'd been in a pit - she said it was obvious just from talking to me I'd never been in a 'real pit' and it was off to the races. She had no idea who Black Flag, TSOL and SNFU & their ilk were. I just stopped speaking when she told me she'd quit attending shows like Red Hot Chili Peppers (!) because we had to be responsible now. I may have alluded that this outlook caused her recent divorce, can't say.

A responsible parent teaches her daughter to throw an elbow at the right time. Damn straight. And a well-aimed cowboy boot --- just ask Kate about the drunk fuckers in Cologne...

Was listening to The Parish Room show in my little office on Monday and my boss walked by, stopped and came back...... Bossman: "Who the hell is this?!" Me: "The Hold Steady- please if you value your sanity don't ask me another question about this band." B: "I have to, they sound great. Kind of like Husker Du and Thin Lizzy." OK wait whoa, did my boss really just say that?! I am getting way too excited for work..... M: "Want to borrow an album? I have a few in the car...." I go out and get him BAGIA, and patiently wait for my next day in. Today he comes in and espouses the virtues of the "amazing yet cracked out lyrics" and starts talking about how the singer sounds like Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) but more gravelly like Graham Hart (Husker Du). How he loves the arpeggios that the guy on keys plays in a couple of songs and that the guitarist is the best he has heard in years "since those Arcade Fire douchebags made music into a bloated mess". OK now I am not sure what I figured he was into before this, but the only cd I have seen in his car is Billy Joel's Greatest Hits (he now claims that to belong to his girlfriend). This guy is nearly 50 and just bent my brain a little bit, so I had to share........ Sean That's a pretty rad day at work.

1. My boss has a Joey Ramone "action figure" on her desk.
2. One of the good things about living in the same city all my life, is that when "cred" comes into question, I can walk into any given punk rock ro rock and roll bar and get big hugs from all the "respected" older (read: my age) people who are still hanging out on a regular basis. You should see the little punks' jaws drop.
Chili Peppers INDEED. Please correct divorcee on street corner with the facts that not only are the Chili Peppers not a proper band to have a pit, but that I have been in PLENTY of pits where I have emerged without bruises, scratches or bumps of any sort! (7 Seconds comes to mind, though it's doubtful she'd recognize the name.)
May I also take this moment to express my jealousy of you having seen SNFU. Sigh.
XO WD

May I also take this moment to express my jealousy of you having seen SNFU. Sigh. Another reason for you to move to Canada: I'll be seeing my third SNFU show in eight months come June. It's not the same SNFU as old, but hearing anything from Something Green and Leafy This Way Comes still sends me. "Joni Mitchell Tapes" still stands as one of my favourite songs ever.

Old dues (can) RAWK (I'm fitty). I have been making the rounds of my bucket list of bands the past couple 'o years: The Who (3 times). Search Youtube "The Who NYC" to confirm. Springsteen....Iggy and the Stooges--were still dangerous (Ron Ashton--RIP). Just saw J. Geils in Deetroit....W-O-W--they still own Detroit (2-night sell-out in 15 minutes at the Fillmore--great college memories)--and Kid Rock rightly bows to Peter Wolf's feet in the Centerfold YT video of the April 24 show. UFO, Lemmy, Ian Hunter, Bowie, Neil Young, John Fogerty, etc. still look like they can light it up based on YT observation. The Kids ARE alright but the bed-rockers ARE the bedrock. Not interested in phone-ins however...Clapton; Eagles; etc. Heck, Husker Du, Westerberg, etc--the original new wave--are all my age or older....And so it goes....Oh--That reminds me: Nick Lowe. Never saw the Clash unfortunately. See these "old fuckers" before they die. Want your heart ripped out?: See Warren Zevon do "Keep Me In Your Heart" on Youtube while dying of cancer. Just see 'em.....They started it. They won't be around forever.

1. May I also take this moment to express my jealousy of you having seen SNFU. Sigh. XO WD You may, as they were awesome. Seann may have been at the same show. Said show is the source of many Awesome Stories. I do allow that I present more as Blossom squeaking "I'm hardcore!". Still. also - love your 'hey young punks' ways - I used to take me suited self off to lunch at a corner where the young punks hung to talk tunes - amused me greatly, ran half of them off. Other half were awesome kids.
