I'm sitting here, still hungover from Friday, and listening to the recording of the concert THS did at Emo's, Austin, 27th march last year. It's a brilliant show, and although the show obviously hasn't received the same sound treatment as A Positive Rage, I think I prefer the Austin show. So much energy!
What exactly constitutes a great bootleg? Is the sound quality important? What about the setlist? I guess it's a combination of many factors. I think I need a certain level of sound quality to really appreciate a live recording, but it doesn't need to be perfect or mastered or anyting. I don't care too much about the setlist - if the show is good, the selection of songs are not that important. But I need to feel the energy and intensity. Obviously, you don't get that the same way when you listen to a recording, compared to be there in your own flesh. That is why The Good Bootleg has to be recorded at a show who seems to be extraordinary intense and fun. I think Emo's sounds like that kind of show.
What are your bootleg favorites? I've only heart ten or twelve full shows, but so far, Emo's is my number one. Any tips for other great shows?
