It's frustrating how almost every American support is someone I'm either already a big big fan of or like someone I'd be well up for seeing live while all the UK supports are stuff I don't give a crap about.

Please nobody jump on me for expressing a negative opinion. I'm just saying it's a shame that THS seem to have less input on foreign support than they do at home.

I just hope I haven't spent all my concert allotment for the summer by the time these get announced.

Maybe we can try get TGA to open. Or The Thermals, Get Up Kids, The War on Drugs, etc...

it'd be nice to have a half-decent british band. i'm not talking about wanting another band as popular as ths on the bill, just, y'know, someone, somewhere, thinking to themselves, "will hold steady fans actually think this band are any good?". contrary to widespread opinion, we tend to be a reasonably intelligent bunch whose criteria for musical quality extends beyond a thirst for americana with electric guitars. i'm more into subtlety and intelligence myself.
are these bands buying their way onto the bills or something? does anybody listen to them first? i mean, the support on that last tour had travelled across the atlantic to play those gigs, and they were totally out of their depth.

The cancelled War on Drugs dates prove that they can. I have no idea why every other tour has been left to the bookers. My guess is that it's hard for The Thermals or The Bronx or DBT or POS or whoever to get an email from THS saying 'Come to Europe' and then just be like 'Okay'. Harder still for Federale or Demander or Tourmaline. And I don't think THS know many smaller British bands so it does seem more practical for them to just leave it to someone in London. A lot of the bands that supported on the tours I worked on had these Fagin-esque managers, possibly band members' dads, who it's very possible could have been buying them on to bills or just drinking mates of the powers that be. It's also worth keeping the Jools Holland/broadsheet/Radio2 fans in mind, a lot of the music we like and that THS like would bum the shit out of them.

I've just spent the last hour "discovering" The Bronx. They are really good. If this is the lineup for the June NY shows, I'm excited. I did see that The Bronx have August UK dates on their website though.

A mariachi version of Shitty future would rule. The Bronx Rule.

My understanding is that El Bronx play original material, as opposed to mariachi versions of Bronx classix.

When THS played Newcastle the support was a band that have supported mine a couple of times and are really rather unoriginal... (called "stone free" i think). Im going to take this opportunity to selfishly plug my band Brilliant Mind (www.myspace.com/brilliantmindmusic) in the brief hope that someone will see this post and add me to the next UK tour
