This is my local Sam Ash. Should I go? Nah. Best to stay home and fight with the kids over homework then pay bills and buy flu masks online.

My son is actually home with the flu, and I'm on crutches for 30 days. Methinks I will need to get out of the house by Friday. Who wants me to pick them up from the train station?

OK, I thought this was Friday, but it's tomorrow, which would make two years in a row that I blow off Mogwai show for $$ for a free THS event (Artists Den Bank show). I need guidance. Someone steer me in the right direction.

This is my local Sam Ash. Should I go? No. You should stay home. I'm sure it's nothing you'll be interested in.

What are they doing there? I called the store. I am always skeptical, but they told me it will be an unplugged performance. I guess I should just believe them. It is a part of a kickoff for Sam Ash's 85th anniversary. The Gibson tour bus will be there from 2-8 for whatever that is worth. And then Craig and Tad from 7-8.No offense to Gibson, of course. It might be tough but I really hope I can make this.

Thanks for getting the straight dope. I called yesterday too, but got a sketchier answer about maybe there's a q&a, or performance. The person had no idea what was even going on. I will be there for this, and then shooting to Williamsburg for Mogwai. Getting excited...

This is also my local Sam Ash. Unfortunately I am in Philly and not able to go home. I've always wanted to see them unplugged, let us know how it goes!

If I'd known about this sooner, I probably would've driven up for it. I've got nothing going on tonight, and I'd LOVE to see an acoustic set.

Back from the in-store. Met njtownie there which was cool. ekennedy, guess ya didn't make it? Otherwise weird atmosphere to start. It's a Sam Ash so you get the feel of the store. But aside from the two of us it was like the School of Rock kids and some of their parents. A bunch of these kids seemed to know each other. Some of the kids might have been in high school, but some were around ten. A few other high school kids also. Maybe 25 people, plus some Sam Ash and Gibson staff. njtownie and I were literally right in front of Craig and Tad so it worked out for us.
Anyway, what you really wanted to know. Four songs, Tad sitting and playing acoustic. Craig standing, and although a bit more subdued than at a show, still plenty of his patented mannerisms. The setlist:
Magazines You Can Make Him Like You Your Little Hoodrat Friend Multitude of Casualties
Very cool and totally worth it. They pretty much seemed to pick the songs when they got up there. During Hoodrat Craig did a rap about First Avenue outlasting the trendy mall across the street as evidence that rock n roll really is here to stay just before going into the city center lyric. Cool to hear that in an intimate setting.
There was also a raffle for a Gibson. Craig and Tad pulled the name of the winner, which was funny in a laugh along with them kind of way. A kid about ten or eleven years old won it and said he would give it to his brother who actually plays guitar. Total score for that kid.
After that they signed a bunch of 8x10's at the front of the store. They were real friendly and spent a bunch of time talking with anyone who wanted to. They spent a lot of time talking to the guitar winner, his brother and the mom.
I don't normally bother with 8x10's and autographs (I'm too cool). But we all have those situations where we suddenly care about these things, and I had to get one. Commented to Tad that I definitely had to get one since my wife didn't make it and it was the least I could do for her. So after he and Craig signed the picture, Tad wrote
"Hey Cindy! Be nice to Brian!!"
Before that I figured I would stick it on the fridge, now it might have to get framed.
njtownie was out of there after talking to the guys and headed for the Mogwai show, on crutches!
Hey townie - you won a Gibson goodie bag, which subsequently went to a kid, so I guess it's all good.

That's just how it went down. Brian, I made a promise to myself (after I didn't win the guitar), that if I won a goodie bag I would have given it to a kid, so it's all good. Mogwai was great too, by the way.
