excellent. it's nice to read something that cuts a little deeper.
now why couldn't a little chat like that make it into the documentary? but i digress.

"My whole life is an anthropological experiment. I've never felt like part of any particular scene. When I got into the New York punk rock scene, I wasn't a teenager, so I was kind of an anthropologist to the New York punk scene. I didn't have any roots in the indie rock scene, but I joined the Hold Steady and that's been a whole expedition too. The stuff I feel connection to is completely archaic and obsolete."
this is a really revealing interview. i love it!

also, the way he talks about the american dream and reinventing yourself reminds me of that episode of this american life called "twentieth century man" - in a positive way, though.

Very cool. Dug the stuff about the different business models for music--trubador vs patronage and the end of the recording artist.

That may be true, but my impression from the interview was that he sees THS as one of his outlets, not a liability. Anyway, it made me excited for next weekend!

Sadly that free article spanked the $20 Posi Rage DVD.
