I just got an email saying that Atomic Records in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is closing this Febuary!
This sucks.

It's sad to hear that, despite the internet being a great place for buying cds, the likes of Amazon and Ebay and illegal downloading have helped killed off the smaller independent shops and reduced the likes of HMV and Zavvi to only dedicating about 15% of their floor space to cds, and the rest to games and DVDs.
Once I heard about Sister Ray's plight and saw alot of the lesser shops disappearing, I've done my utmost to support the little guys wherever possible by either buying from the shops or from their websites (e.g. places like Normanrecords.co.uk), ok it may often cost me a few extra quid to buy from them, but you can't even get a pint for that, and I'd rather the money went to keeping a decent shop with knowledgable staff in business than a multi-million pound generating warehouse .
I used to spend virtually every saturday or sunday trawling around London's record shops but my life got busier and the internet made it all so much easier to find stuff and cheaper to buy it. I still spend hours in record shops and I pray for their continued existence.

Yeah, it sucks! The sad thing is it's not just about the record company, it's pretty much showing you what the music industry has come to.
I will not go out of my way to watch anyone crank that Soulja Boy.

i think i will pay my local record store a visit today. even though i will have to fight my way through the barbarian hordes that are surrounding the malls.
it always bothers me when i see an real record store close down. when i moved to St. Louis in '96, there were 4 or 5 good stores, one really great one, and an indie chain that let their stores specialize in whatever they wanted.
now we are down to one decent store and the great one.....
it is sad to think that the majority of the USA gets their music from Walmart, Best Buy and other box stores.

The only record store I go to now is the second hand vinyl place where everything is a quid. I got a copy of Blue Valentine yesterday. Quite pleased with that.

20% off for the rest of December. 30% off for January. Don't know what February holds.
I'm fucking heartbroken.
