What is Tad doing 2:46 into Most People Are Djs on the bootleg from the Metro the night before THS recorded A Positve Rage?
It's kind of bugging me, because usually I can figure this stuff out, but I'm lost. This random noise...
Is it a slow pick scrape of sorts? Is he muting a simple up-down-up strum and adding some effect? Any help?

Ok, this is what you do:
guitar on bridge pickup, make sure you have a decent amount of gain. Start doing hammerons with your left hand (kinda like if you were tapping) run the side of your right hand up the neck lightly touching the strings, but not pressing them down, as if you were trying to play harmonics. You'll get harmonics over the sound of the hammer-on depending on where your hand is on the neck.
Cool little effect. EVH used to do it a lot too.

That's neat, but I never would've imagined it. Is he sliding his fretting hand down the neck as well? (Sliding his hands apart?)
