So of the 5 tours the guys have done since I've been a fan, 3 of the Northern California shows have been 21 and over. One of said tours, switched from an all ages venue to a 21 and over, had no mention of this, and i ended up commuting two hours to sit outside the venue as my older friends enjoyed the show. This incident almost reoccurred today had i not double checked the Harlow's website and seen that, though they have a restaurant, the venue still prohibits anyone under 21 to enjoy their live music. $17 down the drain. Now, I love the band's affinity for alcohol, but i think we youngsters should get a fair chance to see our favorite band just like everyone else. I would commute to Portland and LA as I've done before, but as an unemployed 18 year old with a car on its last legs, i think it'd be easier to just have shows within a two hour radius be all ages. Anyone else been robbed of a THS fix because of their age?

Tough break man. I had that same problem when I was under 21, also living in nor cal. Does the band not have a bay area show?

Nope, not this time. And most of their Bay Area shows have been at the Mezzanine which is, of course, 21+. I really needed a Hold Steady show too, quite the bummer.

It's how it is sometimes. I missed their House of Blues New Years Eve show because I was nine months too young. My best suggestion? Fake ID. (Or "move" to Manitoba.)

They played two nights this past November at The Fillmore in San Francisco which is an all age's venue. Not to mention, a cultural landmark.

I attended both nights of the Fillmore, which was great. I just wish this bullshit 21+ rule didn't keep me from seeing so many bands I dig. Anyone know why a place like Slim's can be all ages and serve alcohol but a restaurant/nightclub like Harlow's can't?

local municipalities can make up just about whatever regulations they want with regards to an establishments liquor license. Some of it also comes down to what kind of place the owners want to run. I went through the same thing as you back before I turned 21 which was back in the fucking stone ages or at least the 80's.
