So, it's come to my attention that The Hold Steady play a lot of covers. And I thought it'd be interesting to see what covers the Unified Scene would like to hear. Number one on my list: "Chesterfield King" by Jawbreaker

Waitress In The Sky, Spinning, Makes No Sense At All. Something classic from one of the Minneapolis post punk god groups.

"Born To Run."
Oh, and some rediculous pop song, like Britney Spears or something.
That'd be funny as hell.

I've said it before; I'll say it again.
"Welcome To The Working Week" - Elvis Costello.
There is no more perfect track for them to do.

I was telling Brendan on the drive to Iowa City that I was going to make a mix CD for them of songs they should cover.
My number one choice is "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen. The vocals are on the high side for Craig, but it's got a guitar solo for Tad and the piano part is made for Franz to dance to.

I'd love to hear them take on The Clash. "Jimmy Jazz" would be espescially inspired.
Also, Matt is right fuckin on with Welcome to the Working Week. Any Costello, really, but that one would be fantastic.

"Pills" by The New York Dolls. It's perfect for them, Tad getting all of Thunders' riffing, Franz killing it on harmonica, and Craig getting an absolutely rabid vocal part. Also, "Celebration Day" by Zeppelin would be ridiculously epic and seems to lyrically be right up Craig's alley.

Rosalita has got to be one of the top 10 greatest songs ever written. My wife before she was my girlfriend remembered me because I used to sing it at work at the walmart all the time in the electronics department.. I <3 The Boss.

Outkast Hey Ya.
Slow down the pace, and a guitar solo in, and it'll work. Franz is singing the chorus btw.
