point #1 - so, yesterday, a friend of mine - that i have been working on for awhile - tells me he bought a ticket to the 930 club show, and could he please borrow some CDs to help prepare. yes, of course. so, i go home and can't find ANY of my hold steady CDs except one Stations single. an hour later, i eventually dug up my original copy of AKM, and the Aussie version of AKM, from a dusty old box in the closet. My several copies of Stay Positive, I think I gave away. I know I stuck several copies in people's Christmas presents, and one in some stuff I was sending in care package to soldiers overseas, and I probably gave my last one to my sister, not realizing it was my last one. damnit. But my copy of Separation Sunday on CD? and my Aussie version of BAGIA? and my original version of BAGIA? i loaned them all out, months ago. if only i could remember to who. some bastard.
point #2 - today, i had my quarterly meeting with my case manager. His section essentially manages the Department docket and makes sure that we keep track of all our cases, file all our records, etc. But he's a nice dude. Has a kindred look about him. So, I ask him if he likes music. We chat. I end up loaning him one copy of AKM. As he leaving, he asks me - "Wait. How did you know I was a music guy? Have you seen my old band or something?" Nah, dude. No idea. I just thought I'd ask. And now, to check out his old band.

for point #1 you could always post a status on facebook enquiring about all THS CDs that you've loaned out.

I loaned out AKM and SS. I'm getting anxious about it because the guy I loaned it to is going to Europe for a month soon.

the people we loan/buy for aren't always as precious as us about the CDs! I learned that.

Never loan. Go to a pound store (I suppose they are dollar stores in the U.S.?) and by a couple big box of blank CD's for not very much money. Never loan, burn.

i never burn entire hold steady albums. ever. i do mixes that aren't very long and call then "tasters" or "educations".

i don't have my 'almost killed me', 'separation sunday' or (most tragically) 'soft rock' cds any more, and i don't think they're ever coming back.

I give records away far too easily. I'm on my 10th copy of some albums.

i've recently started using Delicious Library (Mac software) for this very reason...uses the built-in webcam on my laptop to scan barcodes to check stuff in and out. hah. still scanning all of my stuff into it though, to build up the database.
